A KIDNEYcon Perspective from a Medicine Trainee I attended KIDNEYcon during my 2nd year of residency and it was a great eye opener for me in medical education in the context of nephrology. It was not a traditional conference where attendees were just sitting in a lecture hall and adjourned after 4 pm. In this meeting, everyone, resident colle

Our Story
The 5th Annual KIDNEYcon conference will he held in Little Rock, AR on April 16-19, 2020. This year, three exciting venues will host the overall conference. The conference will feature 7hands-on workshops that will be held Thursday to Sunday morning on the campus of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) located at 4301 West Markham Street. The KIDNEYcon Education Summit will be held Friday afternoon in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center. Friday night's dinner and JEOPARDY! competition and Saturday's clinical conference will be held at the Little Rock Marriott located at 3 Statehouse Plaza in Downtown Little Rock.
Registration will open January 2020. Registration is $500 for physicians attending both Friday and Saturday events, or $300 for one day. The fee for residents, students, and fellows is $125 for both days, or $75 for one day. Additional information is provided below and via the website, http://www.kidneycon.org.
Statement of Need and Course Description:
The educational content of KIDNEYcon is relevant to adult and pediatric nephrologists, transplant surgeons, and primary care practitioners including internal medicine, pediatric, and family physicians, as well as medical residents and fellows in training. The conference will provide participants with the tools to correctly identify and determine optimal prevention and treatment of patients with acute kidney injury and liver disease and kidney stones. The content for the 2018 KIDNEYcon meeting was carefully selected based upon evaluation feedback from the 2017 KIDNEYcon meeting, statistical evidence presented by Arkana Laboratories regarding renal biopsy results, and recommendations from several national nephrologists who are considered experts in their respected fields. The conference will include hands-on workshops in Kidney Biopsy, Vascular Ultrasound, Interventional Nephrology, Renal Pathogy, Patient Communication Skills, and Acid/Base Fluids and Electrolytes. The strategies outlined will lead to improved patient outcomes. By incorporating interactive techniques such as the six workshops listed above, audience response system, case-based discussion, and Q&A with the expert panel, attendees will be able to closely engage with faculty for a more effective delivery of guidelines for problem solving strategies that can be directly implemented in their practice. Many advances in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases have been made recently, and this conference will provide updates in areas that are highly relevant to the daily practice of physicians who treat patients with kidney disease. This conference serves as a platform for sharing ideas and facilitating collaborative multi-center research projects among academic and community based nephrologists.

The Friday afternoon portion of the conference will be held at the Clinton Presidential Center, which houses the Clinton Library and gives visitors a first-hand look into the life and work of the 42nd president.
