Easterseals Arkansas broke ground on a state-of-the-art facility last week in Little Rock. The new K-12 Academy will serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Spanning 27,500 square feet, this remarkable building is a testament to Easterseals' ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering special-needs students. The school design features 16 classrooms, each designed to accommodate 16-20 students, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.​​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​​Central to the school's design is a versatile multi-purpose room and a therapy gym, which doubles as a storm shelter, ensuring both the physical and emotional well-being of the students. The building's foundation is a repurposed 50-year-old skating rink, which will be transformed into a dynamic space that enhances the community's resources. This expansion marks a significant milestone for Easterseals Arkansas, furthering its mission to reach between 12,000 and 20,000 individuals annually, in addition to the 750 children and adults it serves directly.

Congrats to Peace at Home on the Grand Opening of the Candy Clark Pet Sanctuary! We have been honored to be a part of this important project in NWA. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The building includes space for up to 6 dogs and up to 4 cats to safely reside at one time. This means that a total of 10 or more family pets can reside safely at a time. This will have an immediate and dramatic impact on families fleeing abuse with pets. There will also be space for smaller pets, such as hamsters. The sanctuary also includes isolation space, indoor and outdoor play spaces for families and pets, a grooming station, and a veterinary exam room. This building is a short walk away from the main shelter building, making it possible for families to see and care for their pets every day.

We love to talk with the next generation of designers about architecture and interior design! This past week we were so excited to host two students on a job shadow at WER. They learned about what we do and what the process looks like – ending with a site visit at the new A*O building! ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We then were able to teach a Scouts group all about architecture on Saturday. We reviewed significant architecture in our community, sketched buildings that inspired us, drew floor plans, talked about sustainability, and reviewed the history of architecture. Each of the scouts earned their Architecture Merit Badge afterwards.

WER is excited to announce that Russell Fason has been named CEO. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Russ joined WER in 2004 and has been a partner since 2015. “I feel honored to continue the legacy that the principals before me have shaped. I’ve been lucky enough to overlap with all of the original partners that founded WER and brought it to where it is today,” said Russ.

Russ succeeds David Sargent as CEO. David has helped to thoughtfully grow WER Architects to what it is today during his 38 years with the firm. We are excited that David will remain in the role of Principal and President.
