Are you overwhelmed; feeling hopeless, or struggling with a difficult issue? Challenging seasons can come to us all. However there is hope no matter your circumstance. The fact that you are here demonstrates great courage. It represents the first step towards healing. No matter how many counselors you may have seen, I believe that healing can always come even if you have not yet obtained it.
While I am a Christian counselor, spiritualty can or does not need to be part of the process. It is always your choice and I see clients from all walks of life. My approach is cognitive and solution based. I believe that our thoughts and our perception of things around us can greatly influence our mood and our feelings. I also believe in finding solutions not simply talking about the problem. A full transformation is always my focus. Whatever the need, I am here to help. I speak Spanish ¡Yo hablo Español!
I am a licensed counselor with a master's degree in Mental Health here at McMahan Counseling. However my experience in mental health goes beyond my academic studies. Taking the first step is hard. I know because I once was on the other side. I look forward to being part of your self discovery and healing.

Update Blog Post: Be Brave
https://empoweredhope.blogspot.com/
When I first decided to go to counseling as a client, I thought I would just sit down and some wise therapist would solve all of life's problems. That's not how it went. But in being both the client and the therapist, I've learned that it takes courage to dive into this process.

Read how Shannon's life was changed by the love of Jesus and the Union Rescue Mission (permission granted to share and name changed to protect identity):
That night at the hospital, I prayed. I prayed harder than I have ever before. I pleaded with God to help me, give me sign of what I am supposed to do, and be with me please, and I don’t want to be alone anymore! Little did I know, I was never alone, and my prayers were about to be answered 10-fold. The next day, after my son was put into a body-cast, I met with my DCFS worker. She asked me if I was willing to give up my life as I knew it to get back my children. I of course said, “YES!!”, and that’s when I did my crisis call for the Dorcas House. This was the easiest decision of my life. I then arrived at my new home, confused, broken, sobbing, and afraid of what was to come. I was immediately welcomed with love, compassion, respect godliness, and sisterhood. I was re-introduced forgiving almighty father in heaven, the ultimate binder of broken hearts.
Isaiah 61:1-3 says “He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives, and release from the darkness,” furthermore it says, “to comfort all who mourn (…) to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of despair.” He completely filled my broken heart, and I began to trust and have faith in him again. Two weeks after being at the Dorcas House, God allowed my children to be returned to me. This was amazing and incredible! I never thought I could be that excited. I missed them so much, and it felt like an eternity, but I appreciate them so much more because of it. I was finally able to pray with them, and introduce them to the loving father who had made our family whole again.
A couple of months passed and my son’s leg was completely healed. Soon after that my DCFS case was closed, and my name was taken off the child maltreatment list. Everything that was horrible in my life was restored, and now my family is stronger than ever! 1 Peter 5:10 says “In Christ, after you have suffered a little while (he) himself will restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.” And that is exactly what he did. I now realize this series of unfortunate events led to my salvation. Being at the Dorcas House has showed me what a life in Christ can do.

"One of the things I remember most about beginning my own counseling journey as a client was how incredibly nervous I was! I think knowing what to expect would have helped calm me down a little so in this post, I go through some common questions you might have and give an overview of how my first sessions typically go."

We enjoy seeing children, teens, adults, couples and families grow through Professional Christian Counseling. Whatever may be interfering with the peace, hope, and future God has for you, it's time to overcome those obstacles.
People who seek counseling are not "crazy." Counseling is a way of obtaining new skills or new ways of thinking that will improve your life and relationships. People, even those close to you, may not understand what you are going through. Don't let pride, stigmas, or fear stop you from having a better life.
You don't have to be a Christian or have certain beliefs to benefit from counseling with us. Christian Counseling is an open door to Professional Counseling Services with a Biblical foundation to those who choose to address spiritual and religious issues in counseling. We are here for you. Your counseling can include or exclude issues of spirituality depending on what's best for you. The direction of your therapy is always your choice and we will follow your lead.
