Wow- just wow. What a weekend we had setting our sankalpas for 2024. ✨🤩🥰 We arrived Thursday evening & attended a new moon circle focused on reflexology & the power of energy & plant healing with Suzanne Rogue, a local wisdom guide, teacher & community leader. We spent Friday & Saturday practicing yoga asana, walking the labyrinth & visiting mediation hill, meditating, soaking, resting, rejuvenating, releasing, welcoming, & getting clear on where we want our power to go. We did yoga nidra, made an altar together, chanted the Gayatri 108 times, met new friends & created new memories with old friends & partners. We left Sunday morning in the snow, forever changed & bonded by our short but impactful time together, clear on what we intend for this year, our hearts full of fire & light. ❤️‍🔥✨ I was gifted a beautiful painting of Ganesh, was brought to tears by everyone’s sweet words & came home with overflowing gratitude for being able to do this work & for everyone who showed up & shared so vulnerably & authentically. Look at this cool deep ocean creature I saw at the Monterey Bay Aquarium! Reminds me of human reproductive organs- both male & female. 🧬 We humans love to divide & separate ourselves from Source. We like to think we are so much more advanced than species like these , and therefore superior. But sometimes human ways make me question this…which, I guess, in its own way, is a way of proving we are different. It is, after all, our ability to self-reflect that makes being human unique in the animal world. So, ok, we may be different, but we are not separate. The electric current running through this tiny, delicate being of the deep sea is the same that runs through us & makes our brain’s neurons fire. Life is an amazing, awe-filled adventure and we are only here for a short time. May we make the best of it. ✨ Explore the world within you, and within all things, through the practice of yoga. Not all healing can be done through talking. Much of our healing occurs when we allow our bodies to move fluidly, in whatever way they want. Simply rocking, for example, can be incredibly healing. An excerpt from The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D.: “Yet while the surroundings were foreign & terrifying, I recognized this group all too well: The women sat slumped over -sad and frozen- like so many rape therapy groups I had seen in Boston. I felt a familiar sense of helplessness, and, surrounded by collapsed people, I felt myself mentally collapse as well. Then one woman started to hum, while gently swaying back and forth. Slowly a rhythm emerged; bit by bit other women joined in. Soon the whole group was singing, moving, and getting up to dance. It was an astounding transformation: people coming back to life, faces becoming more attuned, vitality returning to their bodies. I made a vow to apply what I was seeing then and there and to study how rhythm, chanting, and movement can help heal trauma.” While yoga asana practice is a set series of intentionally aligned postures and is not always freeform movement, it has always been a tool for deep healing. The postures create structure and build strength. The breath moves energy and establishes a healing rhythm for the mind that soothes pain & helps heal trauma.
