A crucible is a vessel that medieval alchemist would use to melt down base metals in order to convert them to something more valuable. Unlike in alchemy, the crucibles of jiu jitsu achieve their aim. Through training we are melted down time and time again as we attempt to refine our skills into something more valuable. No one begins this grappling alchemy as a finished product. Our efforts in competition and in the training room burn away our defects as we go through many crucible experiences. And just when we think we can’t be melted down or refined any further; we find ourselves back in the forge, and under the hammer. Promotions help us to keep perspective, because it’s easy to lose sight, It’s easy to forget about what you’re creating when all you feel is the heat and the sting of the hammer and anvil: Remember that no worthy blade can be crafted outside of this process. New belts, and new stripes; they represent a milestone in the refining of your technique and the sharpening of your skills. Trust the process. Hey guys. Thanksgiving we will be running an open mat from 10-12, all affiliations are welcome, no drop in fees ever. All our regular classes are canceled on Thursday, regular class times resume for Friday. On Saturday, we will only have the Elisabeth Clay seminar. There will be no other classes on Saturday. Ladies and gents we are super pleased to announce that we have just booked a seminar with on Saturday November 25th. Seminar will run from 11am-2pm. Cost is $100 per person and this will be open to all academies. Liz is a multiple time Black belt world champion, adcc trials champion, Pan champion, woth a list of titles and accomplishments that are too long to list! Thank you to everyone. This place is incredible and it’s because of all you! Congrats to all who leveled up.

Medals are overrated, but we did bring home two bronzes for the team. More important to us were the memories made and experience hard earned. And we gained a lot of XP this time around, lessons that all of commonwealth will use to grow even sharper on the mats. Thank you so much to our team for the impossible outreach, support and encouragement. Also, a huge thank you/I love you to our competitors for stepping into the fire time and time again, so that the whole team can become more fireproof.
Also, how cool is it that we no only represented commonwealth, but a collective of great Michigan teams through the support of and Thank you guys so much!

Congratulations to Dan leith for earning bronze today at masters worlds. 3 wins, 2 via subs, and 1 loss via ref decision. The part that is most incredible is that Dan fought the gold medalist to a draw in the semi finals and then lost the ref decision inspite of pushing the entire pace and owning the initiative. Although it’s hard to take a loss in this manner, this is the nature of the sport. However, the gold medalist was promoted to black belt on the podium by Rafa Mendez, and surrounded by and trained under the most elite grapplers in the planet, Tainan, cole, gui, Rafa. At most, Dan deserved the chance to compete in the finals. At least, the guy Dan fought to a draw is considered a black belt by the most elite black belts in the world. So there you have it, our very own Dan leith ladies and gentlemen. Cmmnwlth leadership standing toe to toe with black belts produced by the best coaches in the world. This is our level too. Congrats brother!!
