😄It’s time for another installment of Witty Wednesday… A chance for a midweek laugh! Laughter is medicine! We love to bring the laughs in therapy so we thought we’d share with the world some of our client’s best “dad jokes” that they work on in speech therapy. Telling a joke is all about the delivery! Our Parkinson’s patients have been perfecting their voice projection, quality and clarity to make sure the joke really sticks! 👍 Let us know your best jokes in the comments below and you might see them in the next installment of Witty Wednesday! 👇 • • • #parkinsons #voice #speakout #pdrehab #speech #slp #voicequality #voiceclarity #hopestartshere #therecoveryproject #laughterasmedicine #wittywednesday #neuroslp #neurorehab

It’s a bird…It’s a plane… It’s Carlos! ✈️ At first glance, it’s easy to see how you might mistake him for Superman but it’s actually this amazing individual, Carlos. 🦸‍♂️💪 Carlos is a fun-loving, 19 year old who is always up for a challenge! He has been in therapy since he was a child working to be independent navigating his home & community. At TRP, Carlos is working hard to address symptoms that have accompanied his secondary diagnosis of neuromuscular scoliosis. Building up his strength and mobility to return to walking independently & the things he loves, like his adaptive bike! We love utilizing the Redcord for gravity eliminated positions to maximize the efficiency of the exercise! Benefits of Redcord & gravity eliminated exercises: 💥Increased muscle contraction through greater ROM 🔥Increased motivation for thoracic extension 💥Increased core muscle activation w/dynamic UE movement 🔥Static stretching for hip flexion contractures What are some ways you like to use the Redcord? This familiar hard working individual has been coming to TRP on/off since 2018, persistent in progressing towards his therapeutic goals. Mark is no stranger to a challenge &takes it on with 100% effort every time. He works hard at maximizing his therapeutic gains, graciously crediting some of his amazing progress to the spinal cord injury program at TRP. He says his experience, “Since coming to TRP, I have less pain, more independence with tasks around the house. Transfers have been improving as well! sitting balance has improved as well.” Great job Mark! You are such a joy to work with, thank you for always giving it your all! #sci #scirehab #spinalcordinjury ordinary#hopestartshere #cureforparalysis #neuroot #neurorehan #redcord #neuropt #therecoveryproject #upperextremity

Do you wish to be more independent with your transfers? Our occupational therapist would love to work with you to achieve your personal health goals. If there are different kinds of transfers (ie: to the car, home equipment, bed transfers, etc.) that you feel would benefit your life to know how to safely perform, let your therapist know! Our friend Dan is living with a spinal cord injury diagnosis and has been hard at work on his transfers/bed mobility with and without a sliding board. His OT, Paige, pushes him to reach his full potential with every session they have. He has been making great progress, continuing to pursue his goals & achieve further independence. Nice work: Dan! Are you practicing safe transfers at home or in therapy? Occupational Therapists… They’re here to make your life easier! We promise! 🫶🏼 Our friend Mary experienced a stroke that made some tasks challenging to complete. She expressed to her occupational therapist that she was eager to work on kitchen skills in order to be more independent. Her OT utilized the grasp & release program on our RTI Xcite device to practice specific functional movements. Who doesn’t love a great FES combo! 💥 With electrodes placed strategically on the top of her hand as well as the forearm, she transferred water from the squeeze bottle to a smaller cup. Add in the assistance of the mobile arm support, Mary had a blast showing off her pouring skills! You’re doing a great job, Mary! Keep up all your hard work.👏 What functional skills do you want to work on in therapy? Let us know in the comments below! 👇🏼

💪🏼Allow us to introduce to you one of the hardest working individuals we know! Devin is a 22 year old spinal cord injury patient who came to us in 2021 following a traumatic injury to his fourth thoracic vertebrae that caused paralysis below his level of injury. Devin shows an inspirational level of dedication and perseverance to defy the odds. Even at a young age & facing undesirable circumstances, he never shies away from a challenge. He has made great strides in his spinal cord injury recovery, making his way towards the level of independence he desires. Devin has improved his core strength & is eager as ever to progress to standing with his KAFO’s to complete activities, building up his cardio endurance as he goes. Devin leaves us with these words that truly resonate within him from the talented women’s basketball player, Paige Bueckers: “I did all I could so God can do all I can’t.” Congratulations on the progress that you’ve made, Devin. We look forward to seeing all that you can accomplish & have no doubt you’re going to keep killing the game. Drop a comment below with some encouraging words cheering him on! 👏

💥Even as we near the end of the week, there is no slowing down at TRP! Back in 2020, Scott sustained an incomplete C5-C7 spinal cord injury that resulted in decreased strength throughout his body and limits his ability to complete ADL’s independently. But that didn’t stop Scott or his perseverance to improve his quality of life! In occupational therapy, they are working to increase his respiratory function, overall endurance & UE function. Keeping goals of returning to the activities he loves at the focus of his sessions, Scott puts his all into maximizing his recovery. 💪🏼 Scott loves to stay busy and active, so finding ways to incorporate cooking and woodworking activities back into his daily life is the perfect recipe to a fulfilling life. At TRP, we have a research-based, speciality medical program designed to be customizable for individuals with SCI’s (spinal cord injuries). True to our core values… Hope starts here! ✨ Comment below or DM us with any questions or interest in our program, especially if you or a loved one has been affected by a spinal cord injury. 🍀 Happy (belated) St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! 🍀 We hope everyone had a safe, fun weekend & is now feeling ready to take on the new week. We are still feeling the Irish vibes here at TRP, so what better time to show off our patient’s amazing moves in the Solostep! 🧠It’s important to stay active and get moving every day, aerobic exercise and high intensity movements are essential for increasing blood flow and promoting neuroplasticity in the brain. 🧡It’s time to kick off MS Awareness Week! 🧡 There is no better way to start the week than introducing our friend Ivy as he shares his thoughts on living with MS.. ”You don’t know how it’s going to affect you as an individual or the village, meaning your friends & family.. Sometimes they don’t know how to adjust to it.” When asked to share a piece of advice to individuals newly diagnosed with MS, Ivy stated, “Educate yourself! No matter how much you think you know about it, you can always learn more & more.” He leaves us with this statement of what he’s learned through his personal journey, “You really find out your abilities and what you’re capable of doing by yourself. Even though you look for the help.. you’ll find your inner strength.” Join us in celebrating Ivy today and honoring all those living with MS. 🧡 • • • #multiplesclerosis #multiplesclerosisawareness #multiplesclerosiswarrior #multiplesclerosisfighter #multiplesclerosissociety #therecoveryproject #hopestartshere #neuro #ms #mswarrior

Did you know this? 🤔 For patients with Functional Movement Disorder (FMD), an external versus internal focus allows them to think beyond the disrupted pathway to achieve a goal. 🧠 Giving your patient cues such as “kick the balloon” to focus on the goal of the exercise, rather than the specific movement cue to “straighten your knee”, helps elicit the correct action & promote neuroplasticity. 🎈 So, our lovely therapists put together some “Do’s & Don’ts” for FMD treatment ideas! 👏🏼 📌Save this for the next time you need some fresh ideas for cues! • • • #fmd #neurotherapy #therecoveryproject #hopestartshere #functionalmovementdisorder #fmdrehab #fnd #cues

We take your personal goals and interests very seriously around here! 🎨 Focusing on tasks that are meaningful to our patients is the best way to create effective & motivating treatment ideas to continue to progress their recovery. Our therapists are incredibly creative and will work hard to find the best way to achieve the multiple goals you may have. Post-stroke, our friend was eager to return to making beautiful art and expressing herself through painting. So, her occupational therapist set out to address a variety of skills while creating a work of art! 🧑‍🎨 Wondering how we secretly amped up the benefits in this one exercise? 🔥Standing -> Building up endurance 🔥Push-up handle -> Weight-bearing through arm when open handed position is not yet tolerable 🔥Weight-bearing through affected arm -> Promotes proprioceptive input 🔥FES on forearm -> Decrease flexor synergy How awesome is that? What are some personal goals you want to work on in therapy? Let us know below! 👇🏼

⛳️Are you eager for the warm, golfing weather to return? Great news - you don’t have to wait for the seasons to change to work on your golf game at TRP! In occupational therapy, they are hard at work post-stroke getting him back onto the golf course & confident in his swing! Adding functional electrical stimulation (FES) to his shoulder stabilizers beneficially provides proximal support as well as increased shoulder strength & stability. 🏌️‍♂️ 💡Another bonus of this fun exercise is the incorporation of grip strengthening, making sure a firm grasp is maintained on the golf club. 💪🏼Ready to achieve your personalized therapy goals? Let’s work together to create a tailored plan just for you! 🫵🏼

⭐️Can we all take a moment to listen to the beautiful voices of our very own superstars? ⭐️ Patty has been in therapy for symptoms related to MS, working on her standing & weight-bearing tolerance while in her free time composing beautiful poems. She shared one of these poems with her therapist, Jeff, who happens to be a musician and the rest is history. Jeff put the poem to music and Patty brought it all to life, joining in with a tambourine & her vocal skills. The addition of the standing frame during her performance was valuable in addressing multiple therapeutic skills to help with the big show: 🎵Diaphragmatic breaths ➡️Voice projection 🎤Dual tasking ➡️ Singing & playing tambourine 🎵Lower extremity stretching ➡️ Standing tall so fans can see her 🎤Weight-bearing tolerance ➡️ Being able to stand for the full concert (Time for a tour?😉) Patty, thank you for sharing your art with the all of us! We all loved listening to you perform & cheering you on for an encore! 👏🏼 Join us in the comments below to cheer her on as she makes her great singing debut!
