7th and 8th Grade London Club Baseball Notice
London Middle School baseball is a Club sport, not a school sport. This means that the rules and procedures are different from other sports that are sanctioned by OHSAA/London City Schools. Information below will provide the detail on the fees, timing of events, and next steps.
Club teams allow for the flexibility of a player to be part of their school team as well as their travel team without any restrictions. Travel players will still be allowed to play and practice with their Club team as they wish.
Rules: Club teams are far more liberal than those of school teams. School teams are sanctioned by OHSAA whereas Club teams have far less rules. In London, we require that each middle school player use a “-3” or “BBCOR” bat so that they can transition to the HS game easier. (Some exceptions may be made for smaller 7th graders.)
Transportation: Club teams are responsible for their own non-school transportation. In other words, parents will be responsible for getting their players to the games and practices, not the school.
Facility use: London City Schools does not necessarily have to provide facilities for club teams to practice and play on. In our case, the schools have offered to provide multiple practice and playing facilities. Practices will be held at the Von Kanel, the High School field, and/or the middle school gym (cold and inclement weather, and for when it gets dark early). All home games will be held at the London High School Varsity field (there may be a chance a small select group of games is at Berliner Park in Columbus). All makeup bumps for high school will be played at Von Kanel.
(Estimated) Fees:
Jersey: $80 for one jersey shirt and a hat
Game Balls: $30 per player
Umps for home games: $80 per player
Game Fields: $20
Parents are responsible for Pants, Socks, and Belts (stocked for purchase at Mabe’s).
Estimated Total Cost per player: $210 (Actual fees will be communicated during the offer period.)
Important Dates:
Open gyms in the High School basketball gym on 1/7, 1/14, and 1/21 from 12:00-2:00pm
Tryouts on 1/27 at the Middle School basketball gym:
8th grade: 12:00-1:00pm
7th grade: 1:00-2:00pm
Coaches and Contact Information:
8th grade coach: Mike Brooks
[email protected]
7th grade coach: Tommy Martin
[email protected]
Parents meeting will be scheduled on Thursday, February 1st for all offered players and their families. Payment will be due and registration/waiver from the app will also be administered at this meeting. Player fees and registration must be complete prior to the first practice.
Attention London families: LABC is still looking for a few more volunteers to round out our incredible Board of Directors. We only meet once per month, and the impact to our community is huge. Please use this link to apply to join us: https://forms.gle/3YYuWw2ph4YH5UQC9
London Baseball Families,
Please see the following notice from a local baseball coach here in London:
Good morning parents! Coach Ross [McQuirt] here, I wanted to reach out to as many baseball families as possible via text about a program I'm starting hopefully not this weekend but next. I know I've spoken to a lot of the kids about my goal for London Baseball over the next 5 years. I want us to have a competitive travel baseball team in London. We have a WEALTH of talent in town and we should want to keep it here. I really took to last year's LABC team and the allstar team. Those kids really lit a fire in me. With that being said I'm starting up a year round baseball program for kids 6-18. To begin it will be just one day a week (Saturdays from 11-12 ). If it takes off and we have a good turn-out I'll do multiple days a week with age groups. I want to try to keep the group at 10 kids or less per session. If we have to go to 15 than we can go for an hour and a half. It will be $10 per athlete per session or $35 for the month. $400 for the year. The 1st 10 to sign up for a year will 30% off the annual fee. We will cover hitting, bunting, glove work and pitching. When classes are smaller we can do individual position work. We will be at Diamondz in the winter months and at the hs when it warms up. 100% of dues will go back into the program to help pay for cage rentals and equipment (baseballs arent cheap and i go through a couple hundred a year.) If individual lesson are needed i can do those as well. Thats something we could discuss in a separate text. Please do not respond to this text. If you have any questions please text any time 6148053669. Thank you everyone for your time I look forward to what to come with London baseball!
The LABC Board was humbled and honored that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions could be made in Stanley J. Kavy, Jr.'s name to the London Area Baseball Council. We were overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of those who knew him. To honor his memory, the Board unanimously voted to add a new in memoriam section to our website. Stanley is the first member of our new LABC Wall of Honor. Thank you to everyone that made contributions in his name that we will use to provide baseball opportunities for the youth of London.
Wall of Honor The London Area Baseball Council is committed to the youth of London, providing youth baseball and t-ball opportunities.
We want you on our board!
