SoCal GPS is a free conference being held on May 14, 2022, in which attendees participate in informative workshops bringing awareness to the graduate school preparation and application process. Here they are also exposed to the professional prospects available after receiving an advanced degree post-graduation in both MS and PhD.

UC Irvine is now accepting applications for our NSF-funded Center for Complex and Active Materials Research Experiences for Undergraduates. This 8-weeks research experience allows Hands-on research guided by faculty mentors and graduate students. Some of the topics that are researched are complex concentrated materials , Bioinspired active materials , machine learning and more. This program also grants a $4,800 stipend, guest speakers and graduate school preparation workshops.

Eligibility :
-Must be a United States citizen, national, or permanent resident to apply. International students are NOT eligible for this program
-Sophomores, juniors, and non-graduating seniors enrolled in 2- and 4-year colleges and universities in the United States
-3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
-No prior research experience required

BioXFEL is a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center (STC) that focuses on promoting and advancing the study of biological molecules using X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs). Summer Research Internships are available in several locations for highly qualified undergraduate and post-graduate students with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, computer science and all related fields.

This Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) offers a unique interdisciplinary experience that integrates cutting-edge data science techniques and the design of novel materials. REU students will be introduced to the field of Materials Informatics and learn how to apply artificial intelligence tools to create novel materials with preferred characteristics.This 10 week program is open to underrepresented students in STEM and those from non-research focused institutions.

The internship includes a scientific communications workshop, educational seminars and social activities, aimed at preparing a future generation of materials scientists who are fluent in both materials science and information science.

The California Academy of Sciences is hosting a free Marine Mammal Identification Masterclass beginning tomorrow, November 2 on YouTube.

The MESA IDEA Accelerator project aims to provide training to MESA’s 4-year university students in the tech startup accelerator process to build their entrepreneurship skills. Throughout its history, while MESA has prepared its post-secondary students to enter the STEM workforce as entry-level engineers and scientists, the program has not provided entrepreneurship training or meaningful exposure to the world of tech startups.

Free RePicture STEM Exploration Course

Join other college students interested in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM), recent STEM graduates, and exceptionally motivated high school students for a fun and educational course this summer. Not only open for STEM students, but also for non-STEM students to open your perspective to STEM.

The 6-week course will meet in June and July. Sessions will be live and recorded to fit your schedule. The hours are flexible and students will typically spend 8-15 hours per week in webinars, group activities, and assignments. Join one career exploration track for all 6 weeks, or explore different options.

Watermark is offering women in STEM scholarships for the fall 2021 academic term to provide much-needed support for college students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)-related studies and careers.

To participate in the Watermark Scholars program, applicants are asked to submit either a written essay, up to 500 words, or a short video on the topic of “Who has inspired you to pursue a career in science or technology, and what do you want to achieve upon graduation?” We’re looking for students who have been inspired by recent events and changes in learning and want to make a difference in their careers!

Sponsored by the Sacramento Chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network, the Center for Regional Change at UC Davis, the Division of Social Work at California State University, Sacramento, and MESA, this contest engages youth within underrepresented communities to participate in this competition to create short media messages about the COVID-19 vaccines, and why they are effective and safe.

We require students to participate in scientifically informed and professionally validated pre-recorded training webinars and live Q&A sessions with virologists and public health professionals, covering the development of the vaccines also including information about clinical trials and much more.

Happy Pie Day !!! Emma Haruka Iwao (b. 1984) is a mathematician and computer scientist who broke the Guinness world record for calculating the most digits of pi in 2019, and held that record until 2020. Fascinated with pi since childhood, she calculated pi on her computer when she was 12 years old! Inspired by her own fascination with pi, Iwao and a Google team computed pi to 31.4 trillion decimal places (3.14 x 1013), far more digits than the previous record.
