It's our favorite day of the year, , and we're thrilled to welcome the fabulous Class of 2027! It's going to be a great three years.
We are saddened to learn of the passing of program alum Dr. Todd Miller (MFM Class of 1997) last week. Todd had a huge heart and an outsize personality, and it was his inspiration and work that started what became our annual Halloween party for diabetic children. He will undoubtedly be missed. R.I.P.
Anthony Portantino, we urge your support of AB 85. Addressing the social needs of these high health care spenders, particularly through screenings and community health worker intervention, can improve chronic disease control, mental health, and hospitalizations and thus lower costs.
“It’s a way to directly support the businesses, residents and artists for a day while celebrating the vibrant and diverse music scene in and around Long Beach.”
Happy Sundays delivers a slice of Long Beach culture with its homegrown 'anti-music festival' The annual one-day event created by husband and wife team Scott and Julia Montoya combines live music, art and comedy with vibes from their hometown.
“It [Long Beach Walls] recognizes that every single wall, every vacant lot, every corner in the city is a place for someone, a place that can be inspirational, a place for deep thinking, a place for celebration…”
This art festival has brought more than 100 murals (and counting) to Long Beach Long Beach Walls and Art Renzei’s annual art festival supports the creation of new public art for the city. This year's additions have turned a high school’s white walls into a colorful inspiration.

You will be so missed (but at least we get to keep one of you!).
They're here! After months of anticipation the Class of 2026 started orientation today, and we can already see they're a part of the family. So looking forward to the next three years!

Well it's actually happening. After 28 years on our faculty (and three years before that as a resident) Cindy Herzog is retiring from the residency program. She saw her last patient this morning and will be finishing up her administrative tasks over the next two weeks, but today we celebrate all she's done.
Over the years Cindy has had a major hand in training 252 family medicine residents in addition to countless medical students. Her teaching skills, commitment and heart have helped shape so many physicians, and through them she's improved healthcare for literally hundreds of thousands of their patients. She has also touched everyone with whom she's worked, and we're all trying to come to grips with all that we'll miss when she's gone.
Cindy we wish you a wonderful retirement and thank you for everything you've done over the years!!
“Patients can be assured knowing that here, they have a safe medical home.”

It's another June 30th, and so we graduate and say goodbye to eight amazing doctors with whom we've had the great fortune to work over their last three years of training. Good luck Roshelle, Chelsey, Melissa, Amy, Justin, Daniel, Greg and Phoebe! You will be very much missed (except for you, Justin, since you're staying as our sports medicine fellow). Cheers!
A great big welcome to our newest additions, the Class of 2024, as they start residency orientation today. It's been a strange year, and you're coming to a program where you hadn't met anyone before or even visited the office ('cause, pandemic), but we hope you feel the love and know that it's going to be an amazing three years! Welcome!!
Congratulations to 2005 MFM grad, former faculty colleague and perennial friend of the program, Dr. Jay W. Lee , on being named California Academy of Family Physicians' Family Physician of the Year for 2021. We can't think of a more deserving recipient for this honor - Jay, we're so proud!
