The Cherokee delivers 1,400 sq. ft. of living space on a single level, with two bedrooms and a combined family room, dining area, and kitchen sharing a space enhancing vaulted ceiling. The fireplace is offset from center on the 28′ end wall of the plan, though this is an easy change should you wish to relocate the fireplace along this wall in order to achieve your ideal arrangement of furniture and a larger screen television. The Hidden Oaks floor plan is currently one of two show homes located near our headquarters office in Longview, Texas. Measuring 1,186 sq. ft. of heated & cooled living area, the Hidden Oaks features a large front facing loft gable that encloses the upper bedroom and bath.

We're ready at Satterwhite, but two strikes against us:

1) Our office in Longview, Texas is just barely outside the area of totality,

2) Thunderstorms are predicted on Monday, potentially obscuring the celestial event.

Thousands of people are traveling to Texas. We hope you have a great visit and excellent viewing conditions... crossing our fingers and trusting the old maxim - "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait 5 minutes."

That said, our offices will be open, and we welcome anyone who wants to stop by. Hours:

This eclipse will reach maximum at our offices at 1:45pm. We've got a supply of solar glasses, plenty for all employees plus a few extra. Phones may go unanswered briefly during this event.

DIY has always been a strong component of the log home industry. That makes a lot of sense considering the rural nature of this type home, and the self-made and/or self-sufficient proclivities of many log home owners. For these reasons, Satterwhite has always incorporated pricing and sales support specially for the DIY homeowner.

That said, building codes can be a complication, major or minor depending on where you live.

Satterwhite Log Homes are erected nationwide and all around the world. Even in states where we contract labor for constructed shells, the customer is responsible for permitting. This isn't the best picture to illustrate how strong log homes are, though a timber trestle bridge supporting a locomotive is impressive.

The best illustration of log home strength would be timbers supporting the weight of an entire mountain, but there are no great pictures of that, just a few closeups of individual timber assemblies bracing the inside of mine shafts.
