tan·dem: alongside each other; together.

Are you ready to hear a wine love story? Get a wine glass and some tissues ready.

Claudine Vinas took over her parents' farm in the early 1990’s. With her husband Eric, a former restaurateur in Toulouse, they have gradually expanded the vineyards of Domaine des Costes Rouge from 3 to 6 hectares.

With such small holdings, Eric and Claudine are the only employees. As such, they do all the vineyard work themselves without the use of any synthetic chemicals. The soil is tilled with a plow and only copper and sulfur are used to combat mildew. Grape plantings are 100% Mansois and are hand-harvested. Fermentation occurs in underground cement tanks over the course of 8-10 days. Afterwards, the wine is racked and aged in above ground cement tanks. In the late spring, the wine is bottled without filtration. The domaine has been certified organic since 2012.

Grab a bottle of the 2020 Domaine Des Costes Rouges Marcillac 'Tandem' today and share the love 💕

There’s a wine that truly represents the complex, collector-worthy reds coming out of Greece – Xinomavro. Tasting Xinomavro packs a real punch – one of the reasons it’s often compared to the far more expensive Barolo and Nebbiolo in general. But what makes it unique? Xinomavro is one of those wines that boasts both high acidity and heavy tannins. It does not mess around, and neither do we! We are pleased to bring you the 2019 Thymiopoulos Vineyards Earth & Sky Xinomavro

The Thymiopoulos family has owned vineyards in Naoussa for several generations. Until recently, the family grew grapes and supplied wineries with their fruit. Upon matriculation from The University of Athens oenology program, Apostolos Thymiopoulos returned to his family’s vineyards and began producing wine for his own label, Thymiopoulos Vineyards and the wine was called Ghi kai Uranos (Earth & Sky).

Uranos (the US name), is similar in style to a modern Barolo-powerful and concentrated ripe fruit aromas with balanced acidity and tannins. The beauty of this wine comes from the fact that Apostolos was able to coax out Xinomavro’s better qualities without high levels of acidity and tannin, making it a wine that can be drunk now as well as cellared for at least 10-15 years.

Today is International
Day! Salud to the signature wine grape of Spain.

Tempranillo is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines in its native Spain. Its name is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano ("early"), a reference to the fact that it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes. Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements. It is the main grape used in Rioja, and is often referred to as Spain's noble grape. The grape has been planted throughout the globe's wine regions.

To celebrate this fabulous occasion, the Tempranillo were The 2019 Finca Rodma Seleccion 2019. This is an intense garnet red wine. On the nose, it is very complex and persistent, highlighting the ripeness of the grape with aromas of red fruits in liquor, with notes of violet and spices. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine, long and fleshy, with a remarkable structure of elegant and sweet tannins.

Every year on November 7th, International Merlot Day celebrates one of the world’s most popular and misunderstood red wines. 🍷

The word “merlot” is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, which most likely refers to the color of the grape. Merlot wine was first produced in Bordeaux, France. More hectares in Bordeaux are devoted to growing Merlot than any other grape. In Italy, Merlot is the 5th most planted grape. The grape is the 2nd most widely planted grape in Israel.

Wine experts describe the flavor of Merlot as a dark fruit flavor. These fruits include black cherry, blackberry, plum, and raspberry. These fruity flavors are layered with herbal tones as well as an undertones of vanilla and mocha. It is not a sweet wine, however. Merlot is a dry wine that some would consider bitter. This bitter taste comes from the skin of the grapes during the winemaking process.

Our highlighted Merlot is the Coho Merlot from Michael Black Vineyards. This wine is very rich and classically structured. It is a wine that shows real Merlot personality. The red cherry, cola, red licorice, sandalwood and peppery spice flavors are almost Pinot Noir-like, except for the tannins, which have the weight of Bordeaux.

Would you believe me if I told you the oldest vineyard and winery in the Americas is in Mexico?? It’s true and we’ve got the wine to prove it!

This lovely red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo displays a great expression of ripe fruits with flashes of red flowers and spices, black currants, blackberries and toasted cocoa. An elegant mouthfeel, powerful and meaty. A long pleasant finish with firm and round tannins.

Casa Madero owns and operates the oldest vineyards and winery in the entire American Continent. 73 years after Hernan Cortez conquered the Aztecs, Don Lorenzo Garcia explored the north of Mexico, and in the midst of a desert, came across a veritable oasis with water springs and abundance of native vines, from whose grapes the first American wine was ever produced. The place was called "Santa Maria de las Parras", or Holy Mary of the vines, as parras is Spanish for vines. On the 19th of August 1597, Don Lorenzo García took formal possession of a land grant issued to him by Philip II King of Spain, with the express purpose of establishing a vineyard to produce wine and brandy, thus asserting his claim and peaceful use of the land he had settled earlier, thus giving formal birth to the Hacienda de San Lorenzo, which today is Casa Madero.

Looking for the perfect wine for a beautiful warm yet crisp fall day? We have the exact right wine for you. The 2019 Levo 2 2 Tango Grenache is calling your name. 🗣!! The wine maker often says “Grenache is Pinot Noir on steroids. Grenache delivers what Pinot promises,” and we can’t think of any truer statement. It can be savory, electric and full of verve from the coastal reaches of California. It can also be deep and hedonistic when grown in the warmer canyons and hidden valleys that are hotter and deeper inland. If Petite Sirah is the beast then Grenache is the beauty. It is fragile, fickle, and very hard to grow and craft.

"The 2019 Grenache 2 2 Tango is terrific. A blend of 76% Grenache, 15% Graciano, and the rest Syrah, sourced from multiple sites throughout the Central Coast (mostly Ballard Canyon), it has a cool, lively, incredibly elegant style to go with textbook Grenache notes of red and blue fruits, ground pepper, and Herbes de Provence. It has fabulous purity of fruit, and I’m a fan. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years."

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck

10/19/2022

Do you Joey Tensley? His syrah-driven wines are critically acclaimed and consistently scoring in the high 90’s, and to top it off, he’s a down to earth dude who is self-made and believes in the vineyard speaking for itself.

The sandy soils of Sta Rita Hills give the wine a complex and savory nose with pepper, herbs and a touch of salinity. The well drained vineyards give the wine medium body on color and texture. Then, you take into consideration the cool climate and you have a fresh acidic finish that makes your mouth water leaving you wanting more. The acidity makes this wine one of our favorite food friendly wines. Best to drink this wine in 6-7 years from vintage, but you can enjoy it in its youth as well.

Need a wine for the weekend but unsure of what to buy?? How about a little ?

Known as the , this thin, beautiful strip of rugged land with its Mediterranean climate and poor, stony soils is dominated by hills with sheer drops that almost fall straight into the sea. These steep elevations make vine growing a challenge, resulting in scattered vineyards with limited production. In some areas, the slopes are so steep that the land has to be cultivated by hand.

Sitting at almost 1,000 feet above sea level, Colle dei Bardellini enjoys a desirable south-west exposure in a Mediterranean climate surrounded by the floral maritime vegetation of the region, such as maritime pine, from Pittosporum, and wild herbs. The mild weather creates the ideal conditions for viticulture, and the vibrant aromas of the surrounding hills and the saline sea breeze seem to inspire the local varieties to great aromas that cannot be found in any other region.

Colle dei Bardellini is one of the best producers of the native Ligurian grape . The nose displays a bouquet with notes of flowers and aromatic herbs: sage, myrtle, rosemary and thyme. The palate is rich, yet delicate with notes of marine shells.

Perfect with shellfish and all manner of seafood 🦞

Tell me isn’t a 😎

Do you need a Spanish getaway? Who doesn’t — am I right? Toro is a wine region in Castilla y Leon, north-western Spain. It is becoming increasingly well known for its powerful, full bodied red wines made from tinta de toro. The Spanish word toro means 'bull' and it is quite a fitting symbol for these robust wines.

The 2020 Compania de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez 'Dehesa Gago' is deep purple with intense aromas of brambles and black fruit. This dry wine boasts soft acidity and tannins with a grippy feel and black fruit flavors. This wine is incredibly smooth with a balance of acidity following through. Long finish and were intended to be enjoyed with tapas 🤤

Are you celebrating World Vranec Day? You know we are and we’re cracking open this 2018 Tikves Vranec Special Selection.

What is Vranec? Vranac is a black-skinned variety native to mountainous Montenegro. It produces dense, deeply-colored red wines with flavors and aromas which range from sour cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant to chocolate, mint and vanilla. Vranac's name translates roughly as 'strong black', giving a good indication of the wine's character. Vranac is thought to be an ancient variety, and evidence suggests that it has been planted in the hilly landscape of Montenegro since the Middle Ages.

The 2018 Tikves Vranec Special Selection is a deep ruby color. Pronounced aroma of overripe sour cherries, cooked blackberries, spicy notes of cinnamon and toast. On the palate there is medium acidity, high tannins, full body and a long finish.

Blend: 100% Vranec

Are you *THIRSTY* for the weekend? Call in sick and pour yourself a glass of 2021 Jaffurs Wine Cellars Viognier 'Bien Nacido Vineyard' Viognier!!

Jaffurs Wine Cellars Viognier is grown at the historic Bien Nacido Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Bien Nacido Vineyard was one of the first wave of Santa Barbara County vineyard plantings. This coolclimate site gives the taste of ripe fruit while maintaining high natural acidity. Classic Viognier aromatics of honeysuckle and nectarine. Fleshy on the palate, showing peach, shiso leaf, and lemon curd. The fruit simply shines in this microclimate as it's graced both by warm sun and cool, fog laced ocean breezes. Jaffurs has been making wine since 1994 and produces only Rhone varieties.

"Just a great example of the variety, the 2021 Viognier Bien Nacido Vineyard is all varietal and spent 6 months in a combination of neutral French oak and stainless steel. It has bright citrus and tart peach fruits to go with a medium-bodied, vibrant, fresh, yet still classic Viognier style on the palate that brings both richness and freshness. It's one of the best examples of the variety from California." - 93 points, Jeb Dunnuck

MEET POX: Whiskey, Rum and Mezcal’s Shape-Shifting Love Child. Siglo Cero or zero century is a beverage ancient Mayans drank and the reference to the Year Zero establishing the Mayan calendar. The spirit itself is a blended distillate of corn (maize), sugar cane, and wheat. Made in rural communities hidden up in the mountains, Pox may seem like moonshine upon first glance. But look again: It’s also made from sugar cane, and denotes flavors like coconut and cocoa. Sounds a lot like rum, right? Look one more time: It’s a Mexican spirit sipped straight between bites of orange—so, it’s like mezcal? Pox isn’t any of the above—it’s all of them rolled into one. And it’s awesome 😎

Side note: that beautiful painting in the background?? Oh ya, that’s by our very talented wine specialist !

Baron Herzog Cabernet Sauvignon is made by the Herzog Wine Cellars in Oxnard, California, founded in 1958. Joe Hurliman is the head winemaker and works at combining traditional winemaking with contemporary ideas and tastes. Baron Herzog Cabernet Sauvignon is produced using grapes grown in California's Central Coast regions of San Luis Obispo and Edna Valley. Each lot of wine was aged separately and all lots were blended before bottling.

This is a very approachable Cabernet Sauvignon with berry aromas and impressive blackberry and spice flavors. The wine is only lightly filtered and may form sediment as it ages. Enjoy it with herb-rubbed rotisserie chicken, barbecued steaks, or hard cheese.

You asked and we delivered: BEER!! Wild Berliner Weisse with Grapes, to be exact. Get ready to have your definition of beer changed forever; The Funky Rose is here!

This *funky* interpretation of Berliner Weisse is far from the modern Berliner Weisse. This beer ferments and matures for 5 months in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. After maturation, Tai Rosso grapes (grow on Berici Hills) are added directly in barrels.

Unfiltered and unpasteurized for your drinking delight 😋

Happy International Grenache Day! I don’t know about you, but we think this versatile grape deserves more than one day

Grenache grapes are some of the oldest grapes still widely planted today. Grenache wine is known for having medium acidity, medium tannins, and high alcohol content, which hovers around 13.5-16% ABV. Sure, it’s a little boozy, but we're not judging 😉

Insider tip: Grenache is the Central Coast’s red to watch. Would you like a glass of sunshine? Then look no further than California’s Central Coast, and an absolutely fabulous example is the 2020 J. Brix La Libresca.

La Libresca is the belle of the ball. With a very transparent shade of rusty red in the glass, this bottling shows how compelling Grenache can be in a lighter style. Using neutral vessels, native-yeast fermentation, and absolutely nothing else, this Grenache from J. Brix is juicy with bright red fruit, a peppery spice and clean acidity.

Unfined, unfiltered and not cold-stabilized. 54 cases. 14.7% ABV.

Ready to be upgraded? Let me introduce you to the 2016 Guerrieri Gonzaga Tenuta San Leonardo 'San Leonardo' Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT

The iconic wine of the estate, with its roots deep in its centuries-old history. A classic Bordeaux blend of breed, aristocratic elegance, and extraordinary longevity.

Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère, 10% Merlot

"Another year in bottle has added unexpected depths and dimension to the 2016 San Leonardo. It wafts up with an alluring bouquet of smoky black currant and plum skins, complicated by savory herbs, hints of white pepper and fresh to***co. It's hard chiseled edges have formed into smooth contours now, velvety yet youthfully dense, washing mineral encased dark red and black berries across a core of brisk acidity as a combination of saline-minerals and grippy tannins add tension toward the close. This finishes incredibly long yet also structured, begging for time in the cellar, as hints of licorice and earth tones grumble under an air of inner violet florals. The potential within the 2016 San Leonardo is off the charts, yet it will require a good amount of time to come fully into focus. Bury your bottles deep. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2040." - 96 points, Antonio Galloni - Vinous.com
