Oh L'Amour :: The Erasure Musical
OH L'AMOUR is a new musical about love and loss in the turbulent 1980s set to the music of Erasure.
Seven years ago today - whoa.
Had to take a look at B-Sides recently for a re-write of the show and came upon this fantastic song I'd never heard. Shout out to Onge's website archive which was MOST helpful.

‘It’s the songs that count’: Erasure’s Andy Bell on being out in the 80s, living with HIV and falling from fashion Alongside Vince Clarke, the electropop pioneer has produced some brilliantly catchy and enduring songs. As the group releases a new album, the singer reflects on what happens when the hits dry up – and why he still loves performing live

Well. the final Indiegogo perks arrived yesterday. Angelo Warner at Estoy Merchandise came up with the poster binding and found a Manhattan vendor to print copies of the script with unique autographed title pages. Vince and Andy signed them in Glasgow while on tour and they were shipped to me while in London last October. I'll add my signature before these ship to the lucky recipients. Perk distribution took much longer than expected - so a hearty thank you to those who have patiently waited so long on the last stragglers! Cover art by Frank Svengsouk. Logo design by Chesley Nassaney
For all of you who donated at the Indiegogo level where a signed book is your "perk"...these pictures are from the printer today. Vince and Andy signed the cover pages on their UK tour and Richard shipped them to our hotel while I was in London last month. They'll ship to me for my signature and then we will ship these out ASAP in January. Thanks SO much for your patience.
I had forgotten that AUG 29 was written on the tickets which were an IndieGogo campaign perk. Although the fundraising didn't result in a full blown production, it did allow us to record all the tracks to include with the book when attracting producers to the project. Mitchell, Alexander and Josh knocked it out of the park. Then, yesterday, August 29th, I was able to send those tracks to Andy & Vince for them to hear for the first time!! So a significant date after all!!! THANK YOU for all the kind support (via Matt, too!) yesterday. More fun news coming soon via the IndieGogo account page.
All the tracks are in their last round of mix notes. I've been listening to the show numbers for the last few days now and I am amazed as to what Mitchell, Alexander and Josh accomplished. Thanks, too, to Shaunté, Patrick, Ethan, Sam and Lyle for bringing their incredible talents to Erasure's songs...as well as the dozen or so other singers and musicians that stopped by and recorded...all resulting in some pretty great stuff. A million kisses of gratitude all around.
OG Oh L'Amour :: The Erasure Musical family member Alexander Burke just played in Bob Dylan's band. Now Bob is as lucky as we've been!
The long, long, long receipt from this week's shipments.
Prepping mugs for shipping this week! UK, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Chile, Norway, Canada and about a dozen states in the US...these mugs are going places.
The OLM table read a year ago today was the last time I saw most of the people in the room. What was supposed to precede a new live performance of the show actually was the starting point for a year of Zoom auditions, IndieGogo campaign, plans and revisions of plans, studio recordings one actor at a time and tireless editing and mixing by Mitch, Alex and Josh. It's been a ride, for sure, but the best is yet to come.
Perks are finally arriving and that means shipping will begin soon. Thanks, everyone, for your patience!
Frank Svensgsouk's final artwork is in and I couldn't be more pleased. On to the printers!
Happy Holidays, everyone! For those of you awaiting perks from the IndieGogo campaign, they will be shipping out in January. Like everywhere else, things moving much slower these days (including me LOL), but items ARE coming! Thank you for your patience!
Thanks to hard work of the talented trio of Mitch Kaplan, Alexander Burke and Josh Harris, the first mixes are beginning to surface. So great to hear the voices from that sweltering week of recordings!

Here's an update!
We recorded lead vocals for all 24 songs in the show over 7 days here in LA. Some really amazing work! So proud of what our five singers accomplished working with MD Mitch Kaplan, DIR Michael Shepperd and sound recording artist Alexander Burke! Got goosebumps more than once! Ethan returned home to Atlanta, Shaunte is off shooting a TV show. Sam, Patrick and Lyle are working hard on their own projects. Next up, we will record choral voices for all the bigger numbers and then start the process of mixing and editing.
I'm producing the "perks" and will update that process through Indiegogo. We're on target to meet our end of year delivery (COVID notwithstanding)!
As we were unable to shoot the show as planned due to in sufficient funding, the November streaming event has been postponed. As soon as we can put something together that we can proud of, we'll do it.
The new recordings will definitely help theatrical producers envision OH L'AMOUR on stage, which is our ultimate goal. I can't yet say if/how those can legally be shared publicly, but I promise to do what I can to that end and will update here on that effort.
Thanks to everyone who donated and made that possible! Without you, we would have never made it this far.
Down time. Patrick Ortiz
