1 Project work on the topic: “Environmental issue”
2 Introduction The poisoning of the world's land, air, and water is the fastest-spreading disease of civilization. It probably produces fewer headlines than wars, earthquakes and floods, but it is potentially one of history's greatest dangers to human life on earth. If present trends continue for the next several decades, our planet will become uninhabitable.
3 Types Major current environmental issues may include climate change, pollution, environmental degradation, and resource depletion etc. The conservation movement lobbies for protection of endangered species and protection of any ecologically valuable natural areas.
4 Pollutions Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. The major forms of pollution are air, water and nuclear polutions.
5 Climate change Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions.
6 Greenhouse effect Is created by carbon dioxide emissions, released by industrial facilities and a constantly increasing number of cars. Thus it is of vital importance that the world should start cutting down the release of gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect.
7 Deforestation Deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography. Is a contributor to global warming, and is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect.
8 Conclusion People are beginning to realize that environmental problems are not somebody else's. They join and support various international organizations and green parties. If governments wake up to what is happening- perhaps we'll be able to avoid the disaster that threatens the natural world and all of us with it.

Forests of the United States

It has been estimated that before European settlement, forests in the United States covered nearly 1 billion acres (4,000,000 km2).[1] The arrival of Europeans, however, caused a decline in native populations, and since the natives were largely agricultural, this caused reforestation of agricultural lands.[2]

Nationalatlas.gov says the following:

"Since the mid-1600s, about 300 million acres (1,200,000 km2) of forest have been cleared, primarily for agriculture during the 19th century

Tongass National Forest
The Tongass National Forest (/ˈtɒŋɡəs/) in Southeast Alaska is the largest national forest in the United States at 16.7 million acres (68,000 km2) (26,254.95 square miles). Most of its area is part of the temperate rain forest WWF ecoregion, itself part of the larger Pacific temperate rain forest WWF ecoregion, and is remote enough to be home to many species of endangered and rare flora and fauna. The Tongass, which is managed by the United States Forest Service, encompasses islands of the Alexander Archipelago, fjords and glaciers, and peaks of the Coast Mountains. An international border with Canada (British Columbia) runs along the crest of the Boundary Ranges of the Coast Mountains.[2] The forest is administered from Forest Service offices in Ketchikan. There are local ranger district offices located in Craig, Hoonah, Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, Thorne Bay, Wrangell, and Yakutat.[3]
