Bilingualism does NOT cause a language delay!
It important to address this common misconception, as research actually shows that raising a child in a bilingual environment can boost their cognitive skills, like problem-solving and flexibility.
We always motivate and encourage bilingualism and you should too!ā„ļø
We make speech and language therapy fun and interactive.
Always following your childās lead, while creating a supportive environment that allows them to meet their maximum potential.
Everyone deserves a voice, and we are here to help your child find theirs ā„ļø
Parents, did you know that by age 6, all speech sounds should be mastered? š£ļø Itās true! If your child is still struggling with speech sound errors beyond this age, it is considered developmentally inappropriate.
It is not possible to know what kids will catch up and who wonāt so it is best to check and see, versus wait and see. The longer your child is producing this sound incorrectly, the more stubborn it can be to correct.
Each sound has its own timeline for acquisition, so refer back to our previous posts to understand what to expect when. Donāt hesitate to reach out for support if you have concerns about your childās speech development.
Hand over hand does not work and will backfire. There are many alternative ways that will support your child and their autonomy, while simultaneously building connection, communication, and trust.
There is another way!š¤
April is Autism Awareness Month! ā¾ļø
šThis Autism Awareness Month, letās celebrate the beauty of individuality and the diverse ways children learn and grow. At SG Speech Therapy, we believe thereās no ārightā way of being human. Every child is unique, with their own pace and path of development.
ā„ļøThe human brain is a marvel of complexity, and thereās so much beauty in its diversity. Letās honor the journey of every child, recognizing that differences in learning styles and timing are what make us beautifully human.
š Being Autistic isnāt wrong, it isnāt badāitās just different. Letās shift the narrative from one of deficits to one of celebration. Every child, regardless of their neurotype, brings their own unique strengths and perspectives to the world.
šJoin us in celebrating the richness of neurodiversity and affirming that all brains are beautiful. Together, letās create a world where every child is celebrated for who they are, just as they are.
Here are some first words we LOVE! š
Functional words such as āmoreā āgoā and āall doneā should be targeted first. While academic skills such as colors, numbers, letters are important, they do not help a child successfully communicate their wants and needs.
Functional words first, academic skills later!
We love the BALL POP and all the infectious smiles it causes š„°

Prelinguistic skills- these building blocks set the stage for meaningful communication in our little ones.
Modeling is like a superpower in the world of speech therapy. It's when you show your child how to use words and talk by talking with them. When you talk and interact, you're creating a language-rich environment that paves the way for your child's speech. Hereās why:āØ
Learning by Example: Children learn best by seeing and hearing. When you talk and have conversations with your child, you're giving them a live demonstration of how words and sentences work.
Building Vocabulary: Your conversations introduce new words to your child. The more words they hear, the more words they can learn and use.
Encouraging Communication: By modeling, you're encouraging your child to respond, ask questions, and join in on the talk. It's a great way to promote two-way communication.
How can you put modeling into practice?
Talk, Talk, Talk: Have conversations with your child throughout the day. It could be during playtime, mealtime, or even while running errands.
Follow Their Lead: Pay attention to what interests your child. Talk about the things they love, whether it's their favorite toy or a special book.
Be Patient: Give your child time to respond.
