Arcana: Books on the Arts monthly pick for August is Donald Judd, a special selection of Judd’s minimalist works curated by his son, Flavin Judd.

This catalog follows the first solo exhibition of Donald Judd’s work in South Korea for nearly 10 years. Judd (1928–94) had a personal connection to Korea, having been stationed in Seoul in 1947. The Korean concept of pungsu, similar to the Chinese feng shui, was instrumental to his visualization of space. Curated by Flavin Judd, the artist’s son and artistic director of the Judd Foundation, the exhibition presented more than three decades of the artist’s work and features his experiments in Minimalism across multiple mediums.

My Korean immigrant mother didn’t like fast food. There was one exception though. The McDonalds Filet’O Fish. It was her first connection to American food.

She would put a few slices of kimchee in her sandwich. I guess she had no issue with modifications.

I’m not sure why I never tried to make her a better one. I was probably afraid she’d like McDonalds better.

Well, after much of my usual recipe tinkering, I finally made one . Sesame brioche, Alaskan Cod, pickled fresh chiles, butter lettuce, tartar sauce and American Cheese. It’s good. I get it now. You were right Mom. It’s available now. Let me know what you think.
