Hiring the "new" generation has always been a business challenge. Here are some thoughts on making it more effective.
Better Employee Selection Techniques to Avoid Gen Z Whiplash You know that things are getting complicated about work when you see two diametrically opposed perspectives on one issue in the same week in the same publication. The Wall Street Journal tells us that Gen Z is working its butt off.

Thoughts about how work spouses can reconnect when coming back to the office.
Till Layoffs Do Us Part For some of those who struggled the most with work from home (WFH), the biggest issue was a loss of the social connections they have at work. While introverts may have been celebrating, others missed their friends or “work spouses.
If you compare quality of talent to quality of work-life, in the National Football League, talent wins out. There are lessons there for other employers as well.
Talent Matters Impacts Winning More Than Quality of Work-Life—At least in the NFL This is the time of the year where the National Football League (NFL) goes into radical feedback mode. Many (but not all) college players participate in The Combine, a physical abilities beauty contest where they also get interviewed multiple times by their prospective employers.

How are you adapting your hiring criteria after implementing AI?
Adjusting Hiring Practices to AI We have all seen and heard about how artificial intelligence (AI) is making great strides into different areas of life and work. Most recently, these advancements have made their way into creating art, writing, and other human interactions.
It is time to give some serious thought to how AI impacts the skills required to work alongside of it and how this will change pre-employment screening.

There are so many popular, but correctable, bad interview practices.
How Interviews Can be Too Much of a Good Thing I was listening to a local radio show and the host and expert were talking about the rise in the number of interviews candidates are being asked to go through. I didn’t hear any data to support this claim (perhaps it was given before I got into the car), but the conversation about interviewing, in...

In a time where candidate candidness about how hard they are willing to work is on the rise, validated selection tools can be a hiring advantage for companies.

Selecting the Go-Getters There have been many words written about “quiet quitting” and people being more committed to work-life balance since the beginning of the pandemic. Of course, trends do not include everyone, so while there may not be as many ambitious job candidates available as before (or you’d like), they ar...

Some thoughts on where work is going in 2023 at https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/work-has-always-changed-warren-bobrow-ph-d-/
Work Has Always Changed It’s the time of the year where futurists make predictions (we really need more follow-up on those) and big proclamations are upon us. Among these I’ve been reading are, “Work has changed forever!” and “Is this the end of the 9-5 workday?” The implications of the 9-5 workday are two-fold...

It may take some time, but unbiased hiring practices to lead to results.
Listen, Fairness in Hiring Decisions Makes a Difference In previous posts I’ve written about how neutral hiring processes, particularly in selection instruments, can create more diverse workforces without negatively impacting performance. The symphonic music industry has adapted this approach by having blind auditions (those applying for performance jo...

Maybe we should be thinking about RTO an an organizational change initiative rather than going back to "normal."
https://lnkd.in/gVAqKAqD
Thinking of RTO as Organizational Change Since offices have been opening back up, some, but certainly not all, employers are coming up with various schemes to get people to return to the office (RTO). Per usual, companies are looking at this more so from their perspective than that of their employees.
Your RTO plan may be more effective if you think of it as an organizational change effort.

The Magic Day/Month For Turnover? Operations managers in many companies will tell you that if a person makes it to a certain number of days, their probability of leaving the organization becomes much lower. Put another way, if the probability of someone leaving the organization is X out of 100 within 90 days, it shrinks to X-Y of 10

When Should You Stop Using a Pre-Employment Assessment? I’m guessing that you would not expect me to write about discontinuing the use of a pre-employment or pre-promotional assessment. But, there are instances when it is appropriate to do so.

Do Women Have Less Managerial “Potential” Than Men? Whether it is for succession planning or leadership development, many organizations are concerned about a person’s potential. That it is, in the future, will be this person be performing at their current level (at least relative to peers) or is there something about them that will lead to an accel...
