2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the legendary New York label Fania Records one of the most significant Latin labels in the world, musically and culturally. In the ’60s, Fania pioneered creating and spreading the sound of salsa music from New York City to the globe. In addition to salsa, Fania is the definitive home for genres such as Latin big band, Afro-Cuban jazz, boogaloo, and Latin soul. As we approach our annual Afro-Latine Summer Festival, we hope you'll join us in welcoming talented Afro-Latine artists and creatives to the Mercado!
The art exhibition will include a Fania Records Album Cover Art Installation, as well as works from graphic artist Tony M. Peralta and photography from the Peace Photo Project in Cuba by Azul 213.

This festival aims to create a platform for Afro-Latine communities and allies to come together and celebrate their shared heritage and culture. Through various forms of entertainment, education, and wellness activities, this festival seeks to provide a space where artists, activists, and educators can share their talents, experiences, and knowledge with others. This event will be an 8 hour-long festival incorporating arts, dance and music centered on Afro-Latine culture. The format will focus on the intersection of this culture in entertainment, education and wellness.
One Institute announces a special Pride Month performance of Paul Outlaw’s spellbinding reading, "The Place in Which I’ll Fit Will Not Exist Until I Make It." Join us this Saturday, June 29th from 6-8:30PM at Mercado La Paloma!
This powerful reading, featuring writings and interviews by Q***r African American luminaries from the 1950s to the present day, debuted to enthusiastic acclaim at One Institute’s inaugural Circa: Q***r Histories Festival in 2023. Join us for an encore performance that captures crucial snapshots of q***r culture through eight decades, performed by award-winning artist Paul Outlaw.
