Our amazing Executive Director, , served on the jury at Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF.ro) in Cluj! Plus, some SEEfest filmmakers were there pitching their awesome new projects.

The festival was a blast, taking over the city with fun events (including an HBO party for House of the Dragons, no big deal). Our very own Polina Herman even attended workshops to hone her filmmaking skills for her documentary project.

So proud of our SEEfest fam making waves at TIFF!

We’re thrilled to announce that “Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,” a charming Georgian love story that captivated our closing night audience, is now streaming on !

This SEEfest favorite by Elene Naveriani (ALVA FILM & TAKES FILMc) generated a buzz with its heartwarming tale of love in later life. We’re so proud to see it find a home on such a fantastic arthouse platform!

But SEEfest’s impact goes beyond regional gems! Films we adore, like the Kazakhstani comedy “Mountain Onion” by Eldar Shibanov, might not always perfectly fit our focus. Still, we champion these incredible works!

SEEfest’s dedicated feature programmers championed and promoted “Mountain Onion,” shepherding its journey to U.S. distributor Synergetic Films.

Great celebration continues for Croatian filmmaker Nebojša Slijepčević who last week won the coveted Palme d’Or for his powerful short film, The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.

Slijepčević is known to SEEfest audiences in Los Angeles from his previous documentary films shown at our festival, ‘Gangster of Love’ and ‘Srbenka.’

Congrats to the filmmaker, who also wrote the script, lead actor Goran Bogdan, the entire cast and crew, and producers from Croatia, Bulgaria, France, and Slovenia, who teamed up to realize the film. The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent is based on a true story.

It was February 27, 1993, in Štrpci, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. As they haul off innocent civilians, only one man out of 500 passengers dares to stand up to them. This is the true story of a man who could not remain silent.

NEW SEEfest Review:
Discover the enigmatic novella "MyLifeandMyLife" by Melinda Mátyus, where a nameless woman navigates a complex relationship filled with unfulfilled desires and artistic tension.

This poetic tale, rich in emotional depth, explores love, isolation, and the struggle for intimacy through the lens of fragmented art. Intrigued by themes of doomed love and inner turmoil?

Our Story

Presenting features, documentaries and shorts, and retrospectives of landmark films. The festival functions as cinematic and cultural expression of different points of view, with diverse interpretations of the same struggle to overcome a hostile political landscape.

Developed as a grass roots effort, the festival draws on the indie filmmaker’s passionate belief that every film screened makes a dent in the mountain of the status quo – in South East Europe as much as in Southern California.
