Police Academy Ribbon Awards Ceremony: This annual, end-of-the-year celebratory event was attended by 500 people where the cadets and their families gather to be recognized for all their achievements. Cadets received subject-area certificates and ribbons for their uniform for all kinds of accomplishments. The show ended with the new leaders being announced and pinned officially recognizing the "changing of the guard" in our program.

Monroe has another State Champion!!! This past weekend in Carlsbad, CA at the 2023 California State Speech Championships 12th grade Monroe Law and Government Magnet student Jeffrey Everett won 1st place in Original Prose and Poetry!!! He competed against 55 other State qualifiers from across our State. Jeffrey's victory was our fourth Monroe HS State Champion in OPP and the 11th overall Monroe HS Speech State Champion under the guide of Coach Kathy Graber who has coached at Monroe for 31 years! We are also very proud of the performances of our other three State Qualifiers Natalie Marroquin, Sebastian Salazar, and Santiagho Sosa, and the outstanding season byNataly Gonzalez-Medina (who placed just one place out (6th) at the State Qualifying Round, and Ashley Alonso. Great job everyone!

Students from grades 6th-8th Northridge Medical and Health Careers Magnet welcomed doctors from Northridge Dignity Health Hospital to their classrooms for Mini-Med School Day. Students learned about bandaging, identifying organs, x-rays, and blood pressure from a variety of diverse doctors.

On January 11, 2022, Interim Superintendent M. Reilly, Board President Ms. Gonez, as well as other board members, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti, and other honored guests visited Olive Vista Middle School and STEAM Magnet. They held a press conference and visited the STEAM engineering class. This was featured on many news outlets, both print and TV. Everyone was impressed by our engineering students ability to program self- driving model cars to complete a mock street course. Our students were interviewed as well as featured in pictures on different news outlets.

Our Story

For more than 40 years, the LAUSD Magnet Program has been in the forefront of innovation, providing high-quality instruction and rigorous, theme-based curriculum for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is one of the most successful programs in the Nation.

These Court-Ordered Voluntary Integration programs bring together students from different economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds; provide equitable access to challenging, rigorous instruction; and, are supported by Institutions of Higher Learning and the business community.

Magnet Schools/Centers are open to all students residing within LAUSD boundaries. There are 292 Magnet Programs that fall within one of the 8 different Magnet themes to choose from including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, Visual and Performing Arts, Gifted, Highly Gifted, and more.
