As we anxiously await the arrival of our 2024 Halloween t-shirts (soon!), we asked our artist to tout himself a bit: Raul Flores is an illustrator, cartoonist, sculptor, and reluctant animator. On his work, Raul says, "Influenced by a ton of seemingly disconnected elements, my love of commercial art started at age 3 or 4 with a print advertisement for scotch that featured a beautiful illustration of the Loch Ness monster (the ad appeared in a questionable men's magazine that I found in a '70s-era barber shop). My tastes are varied, everything from Francisco Goya prints and vintage children's book illustration to classic Disney, archaeology, psychedelic art cartooning, and Mad magazine. My main problem is I have to draw or I'm not happy; I must be making something. If a drawing makes me laugh or crack a smile, I just succeeded in being an artist."

The Iliad Bookshop is hiring! We are seeking a full-time employee (40 hours a week, Tues.-Sat. 11 am-7 pm) who is organized and reliable. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of literature, can be on their feet for 8 hours a day and lift a 50-pound box of books, and offer courteous and friendly customer service. Here it is, kids: the design for Iliad's 2023 Halloween shirt! This year's artist is Drew Rausch, whose work we've loved for a few years, so we were thrilled to get this jaw-dropping design from him. The shirts should be available in early October - if you sign up for our newsletter, you'll be among the first to know when they're available (we expect these to go REALLY fast).

Iliad's just been voted "Neighborhood Faves" status at for the 4th year in a row. We have the best customers and neighbors! Thanks, all.

In compliance with new regulations (and to save the environment!), the Iliad will no longer be able to offer plastic bags. We will, however, be happy to provide paper bags upon request (or recycled bags/boxes, depending on availability). Thank you for your understanding.

Please be aware that this is a physically demanding job: The ideal candidate not only has book knowledge, but is capable of lifting a 50-pound box (and is not allergic to cats). In case you've been to the Iliad recently and wondered what this new door is about, here's the story: back in November we ordered a custom-made glass door with pull-down metal shutter to replace the old metal doors that were damaged in the fire. Now, three months later, the doors have arrived, the glass door was partially installed, the team started work on the metal shutter...and promptly destroyed it, so we're back to waiting for a custom-sized piece to be made, delivered, and installed. Because nothing is ever easy, right?

Please be aware that the Iliad's area is currently under a flash flood warning until 10 pm tonight (Friday 2/24).

The Iliad will be closed for a film shoot on Tuesday, 2/21, and Wednesday, 2/22. And no, we can't tell you what it is so don't even ask.

As of today, Thursday 1/19, the Iliad is re-open! Some of the crew are still at home recuperating, but we've got enough who are upright to open again. Thank you all for your patience through this difficult time.
