Potted Poinsettia Care 101! 🌺

Did you know that one of the biggest myths about Poinsettias is that they thrive in cold weather? NOPE! Poinsettias are tropical plants and prefer to stay warm. There is a lot know about caring for your Poinsettia, including the fact you CAN keep it for next year and it will bloom again.

Here’s your checklist to keep your Poinsettia vibrant and healthy this season:

✅ Watering: Check the soil—if it feels dry to the touch, it’s time to water! Pour until it drains from the bottom, but don’t let it sit in water.

✅ Humidity: Poinsettias love humidity, so if your home is dry from heating, give your plant a little mist

✅ Light: Place your Poinsettia in a bright spot but avoid direct sunlight. They love light but can be a bit sunburned if overexposed!

✅ Temperature: Ideally between 65°F and 70°F (18°C to 21°C).

✅ Pruning: After the holiday season, you can prune your Poinsettia back to encourage new growth for next year.

Fun Fact: The colorful part of your Poinsettia? Those are called bracts, not petals! The real flowers are those tiny yellow clusters at the center.

As part of this year’s random acts of flower-giving, The Mellano & Company team will be on hand to distribute 200 free, fresh-cut flowers to the community as part of this industry-wide day of spreading joy and kindness through the power of flowers.
