The San Diego Facility generously donated $5,000 to Time Recycling to support their Earth Day event, which took place on Saturday, April 20th, at the Barrio Logan Community. SA Recycling-San Diego participated, engaging with the local community and other vendors. They distributed SA branded merchandise at their booth, including mugs, totes, card holders, and mouse pads, as well as coloring books and crayons for children. Time Recycling, a business partner for over 30 years selling non-ferrous materials to SA, shares our dedication to recycling and environmental education. Arturo represented our commitment during an interview with the local news at the event. Below are some photographs from the day.

Yesterday, SA Recycling representatives, including Bruce Keizler (VP of Commercial Nonferrous), Omar Bravo (General Manager of the Anaheim facility), and Sandie K. Chiha (General Manager of Anaheim-DBW) conducted a tour for 35 CMRA delegates at both the Anaheim and DBW locations. Well done, team!

It's always bittersweet to say farewell to a colleague, especially one as dedicated as Rito Gamboa. Yesterday, we held a luncheon at our LA 15th Street location to celebrate Rito's retirement after 30 years plus of service to SA Recycling, dating back to the Adams Steel days. Rito was not only a great coworker, but he always went above and beyond to take care of our customers. We wish Rito all the best in his well-deserved retirement and hope he enjoys his time off. Thank you for your service, Rito!

Our Terminal Island facility was able to host the USC Environmental Economic students once again for their spring semester. Lindsay Maine, Valeria Sandoval, Alex Vizcarra and Roy Hernandez were able to conduct this tour of 32 students to inform them of our operations. The tour was focused on bus crushing, explained business importance, emphasized in bulk export and why it is important, economics of metal recycling, appliances and vehicle depolluting, importance of diversion of toxic materials to landfills through our processes, ship loading operations, waste numbers when we explain TASR, and the Storm water System. The students were completely engaged, and the team made the tour a successful one!

The Southern California Shredder Facilities hosted the 1st Shredder Forum on March 5th and 6th of 2024. This Forum represented SA Recycling’s 24 Shredder Operations. Day one of the Forum began at our Terminal Island Facility. At Terminal Island the first half of the day was focused on their Shredder, Maintenance, and Operations. The second half of the day was held at the Anaheim Facility and focused on the Shredder and MRP Operations.

Day two of the Forum began with presentations from all 24 of SA’s Shredder Managers. There were also presentations given by a few guest speakers including Scott Newell of Newell Engineering and Randy Brace of Riverside Engineering. SA’s speakers were Bruce Keizler and Tim Fette discussing MRP Claims, Jorge Simoes on Infeed Conveyor, Bobby Triesch on Rotors and Wear Parts, Mike Adams on Maintenance and PMS and lastly closing the Forum Tyler Adams and George Adams.

Overall, the 1st Forum to host all of SA’s Shredder Operations was a complete success! A sincere thank you to all the managers who participated and helped make this event a memorable one!

The Anaheim Community Foundation held their Annual Recognition Breakfast this week. Our General Manager of Anaheim, Omar Bravo received the Community Hero Award on SA Recycling’s behalf. The award was in recognition for SA’s commitment to giving back to the community. Congratulations Omar & SA Recycling!

This week we had entrepreneurship students from Village Christian High School visit our Terminal Island Facility as part of their career-day field trip. The tour was a complete success as students were very engaged and extremely impressed with our operations, great job David and Tony! This was a perfect way to expose the students to various businesses and industries around the Port.

Last Friday, we celebrated a retirement and huge milestone Congratulations, to Jorge Jimenez, fondly referred to as “Jimenez” on 27 years of dedicated service.

Jorge, your commitment to your job is to be admired, and we thank you for being an important part of our team at downtown. We are happy that we got to give you a proper farewell with mariachi and even a song from our yard supervisor at downtown, Poli. We wish you the best in your retirement.

On Saturday December 23rd our SA Recycling San Diego facility manager Jose Rueda, dispatcher Karla Gurrola and Office Manager Abigail Leal visited the local fire station 19 and delivered lunch from Phils BBQ to the 4 firefighters and 2 paramedics. The captain then invited them into the station and took them to see the Fire Engine where the photos were taken. Station 19 comes to our San Diego facility often to conduct their training drills. SA San Diego has built a strong relationship with Fire Station 19 and plan to make this a traditional visit.

On Friday December 22nd , SA Recycling Alameda yard held a retirement ceremony for Jose Ricardo or as he is most affectionately known “Ritchie” . The best part was that it was a surprise, Angela and the SA Alameda team did a phenomenal job coordinating such a beautiful farewell. He was joined in celebration not only with a Mariachi and his Alameda team but coworkers from other locations who had the pleasure of working with him as well as our RGM Kubilay Karul joined in the festivities to give him a wonderful send off.

We have been thankful to work alongside Ritchie, for over two decades! With his retirement, Ritchie embarks on a new chapter, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions to the team and wish him the very best.

Our SA Recycling Santa Ana facility had their annual Holiday Customer Appreciation Luncheon to spread the holiday cheer! Everyone enjoyed the delicious food and raffle prizes. General Manager, Kurtis Adams, was the star of the show with his Santa outfit. Overall, it was another successful event to add to the books! Special thanks to the great team who put it all together, Kurtis, Alex, Maura and Cathy. FANTASTIC JOB TEAM!!

Last Sunday was a day full of Holiday Spirit for the City of Wilmington’s 36th Annual Heart of the Harbor Parade! The day began with a reception for the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, who were joined by Mayor Karen Bass and other elected officials. Awards and recognition were given to community businesses, presented by our very own Regional General Manager of SA Recycling, Moises Figueroa who is also the Wilmington Chamber’s President. The CEO of the Chamber, Monica Garcia and Mayor Bass are also photographed with the presentation of the awards & recognitions. The holiday events are in full swing in the community and SA Recycling is proud to be a part of it!

Last Tuesday, Nov. 21st, Senator Steven Bradford held his annual turkey giveaway hosted by El Camino College. SA Recycling So Cal Region, along with many other companies, helped to sponsor. This is a yearly event where families of the 35th district can come by and get a turkey or roast, plus the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner.

Our SA Recycling San Diego facility reached out to the community for a Thanksgiving Holiday Surprise! Lines were formed as early as 6:30am this morning by residents waiting for the team’s surprise. 50 gift cards of $25 were distributed to residents around the area to help get their Holiday preparations started. Customers left with a smile on their faces and expressed their gratitude towards the team members. AMAZING JOB TEAM!!

This morning, our SA Recycling Los Angeles-South Alameda facility gave out turkeys to our customers. This is a yearly tradition at the Alameda facility, and their customers really look forward to it. People lined up before 6am today to receive their turkeys. FANTASTIC TRADITION TEAM!

Last Saturday, team members from our Gardena and Downtown LA recycling facilities attended the celebration fofo Día De Los Mu***os at the LA River Gardens that is hosted by Mujeres de La Tierra. Mujeres de la tierra was founded by their executive director Irma Muñoz who has held this event for many years, and we are glad be able to help sponsor.
