“Sepuk Ngenget” and “Perong Condong” performed by at Rocky Mountain Balinese Gamelan Festival in Denver, Colorado on April 23. Amazing photos by Miranda Fan.
Rocky Mountain Balinese Gamelan Festival was a truly inspiring gathering of artists and scholars who shared their passion for Balinese arts.
GMK members were honored and inspired to be part of the festival. For us, it was particularly nice to feel the sense of comradery among performers and the connection to a much larger gamelan community.
I wish this festival were easy to put together: we would be joining every time! So many thanks and much respect to and who organized this incredible gathering and hosted so many groups from the region.
More clips and photos to follow, but for now enjoy our opening song Langsing Tuban.

Thank you for the opportunity to share our music with your students. During the workshop 11th graders learned to play a simple piece and afterwards GMK performed for all the students under the oak tree.
GMK started 2021 with weekly zoom sessions and mini in person rehearsals, which in culmination led to many performances this fall. We pulled off a big program at our Halloween concert, premiering a new pegambuhan “Sepuk Ngenget” with Pak Wenten, putting together “Perong Condong”with Anna Inuzuka and an epic electronics collaboration with Gong Gaada.
GMK turned 7 this month and we are expecting another productive year in 2022. We are a community ensemble from Tujunga and open to new members. Rehearsals/classes are on Sunday 1:30pm and Tuesday at 7:00pm.
It felt really nice to play for an audience again. Today at Beachwood Cafe in Hollywood, we premiered three new songs we had been working on and there will be more for our house show on Oct 30!
