Proyecto Pastoral, Los Angeles, CA Videos

Videos by Proyecto Pastoral in Los Angeles. Proyecto Pastoral is a nonprofit organization in the economically and politically disenfranchised community of Boyle Heights to empower the community personally and socially by developing grassroots projects in education, leadership, and service.

GivingTuesday is here! We are asking for your support so that we can continue to open our doors and provide an inclusive space to the children, families and unhoused residents that we serve in Boyle Heights.

Yesterday, we introduced Victor - a shelter resident of Proyecto Pastoral's Guadalupe Homeless Project. Here Victor shares three words that, in his opinion, best sum up the shelter: Efficacy, Stability, and Understanding.

We are asking for your support to help us continue to provide stability and understanding to those that we serve, so that they can live an empowered and dignified life. This #GivingTuesday, we're asking you to give the gift of stability and inclusivity. Please make a donation by visiting the Giving Tuesday link in our bio. 💜

Steven is currently a Junior and has been a long time IMPACTO student. Continue reading to read a shortened version of his story in the program and how Velvet Holguin, the IMPACTO Program Director, made an impact on his journey. "I was born and raised in Boyle Heights where there aren't many interesting things happening outside of school. My parents immigrated here from Guatemala and Mexico seeking a better life. There are many memories I have of the IMPACTO Program. I remember one day Velvet called me saying she wanted to speak to me, little did i know her words would stick with me until this day. When I got to her office, she shared she had observed how my friends always followed me. She said I had very good leadership skills and that I should use them to better guide my friends. Those words were so simple but made such a big impact to my life. Participating in the IMPACTO program helped me with my social skills and prepared me for the real world and really helped me believe in myself. I've always asked myself why they named it IMPACTO but now I believe aside from the acronym it is because joining this program will make such a big impact on your whole life. Last year I had the opportunity of joining the Academic Case Management summer internship. The experience changed me more than what I expected. I made friends but it also made me realize the true value of the IMPACTO program. IMPACTO isn't just an educational, recreational program... It is home for many community children. It is a safe space where children grow. The internship gave me real life job experience."

We were excited to attend @brentwoodsunshine preschool’s gala last weekend where our Executive Director, Raquel Román, shared some words about the impact of our partnership. Over the past 6 years, our Early Childhood Education Centers have partnered with Brentwood Sunshine Preschool on shared activities to foster learning and connection between our students. We are grateful for the Sunshine parents that have supported our students and families through drives at thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween and throughout the year. Thank you @brentwoodsunshine for your partnership! “Our ties should be to be in communion with the disinherited, with their concerns and struggles” - Gustavo Gutiérrez
