This is not what the cottage looks like today as we are doing a bit of an update, so stay tuned! I have spent the morning ironing my napkins! So very old fashioned of me but I was thinking how well our linen napkins survive. I have so many as we sell them and some years we actually entertain! We have focused on making sustainable products as well as buying them. It’s rather joyful to organize myself on this beautiful Sunday morning and know that I sell goods I’ll probably be ironing for a few more years! Behind every candle is a story! Our evolution is rich in those who framed us. Our logo is an image of Eunice and Henry. Eunice is my grandmother and Henry was a friend of hers when she was 3. Little does Henry know that he lights up our day! Our gunslinger candle is my father, William J. Mcgraw. He was a fearless and mischievous leader. He sent this picture to my mother when he was in college in Montana. He signed it “Ivy league Gunslinger”, which is exactly what he was. I could go on but you get it. To further the intrigue, we actually make our candles, in house, here in L.A. Personally, I never thought I would be so lucky to create and curate such joy! For 25 of our 27 years I worked most of our Sundays. It was my day to garden, to meet with people, I enjoyed the connection and the creativity. Today, I’m baking bread and maybe painting and feeding my soul. I still spend plenty of time taking care of the shoppe but we have thrived and grown. CANDLE DID YOU KNOWS: 1. Always trim the wick before lighting a new candle 2. Always burn a new candle for at least 1 hour on first use 3. Store ones you are not using in a cool dark place 4. You can remove candle wax on fabrics like tablecloths by placing a paper bag over the drippings, run a hot iron over the bag, the bag will absorb the wax (who thinks of this stuff?!) 5. Reduce soot production by always trimming wick to 1/4” and keep away from drafty areas….BONUS DID YOU KNOW: If you bring us your clean used T&D candle glass and we will give you $5 off your next candle- recycle reuse relight!!!

It’s such a beautiful day in LA. We are working on a lot of projects here and often we are re habilitating neglected spaces. When we first saw this space I had my doubts. How do you update old sliding doors without replacing them? How do you make a dated building feel fresh without serious construction? The owners really gave me the game plan when they said they wanted the space to feel “happy”. From that came the idea to paint the very dated doors and stairway a bright fun color. It’s projects like these that give me faith in the process. Ideas are free. Creativity is Powerful when you have to be thrifty. The story ends with a 😁

One of the best compliments, I think we receive is from all the loyal customers and dog walkers that stop in on a daily or biweekly basis, and are always surprised by the new little things. We have we definitely embrace, and we definitely love bringing back our little treasures from Paris….teaching ourselves French, one item at a time…

Life lately has felt like a lot of cleaning. I guess that’s what New Years bring out in us? To be honest it’s stressful and simultaneously exciting. We are so fortunate to own our warehouse. It was built or rather saved by the team during the pandemic. Before this space we ran our staging company out of about 13 storage units. Finding all the bits for each job was a game of Tetris. Here we are now figuring out the best way to live in our blessed space. I always wanted a warehouse. A space to create and document our ideas. A place to dream. That being said, designing for yourself is a challenge that’s why you hire us! Being our own client is tricky. I’m going to have to schedule a meeting.Mkayel, Evelyn, Sydney??? do I want?

Awhile ago Vitaly and I were driving in Venice and we saw this wall. I said, “you should photograph this” he did and the next day they painted over it. Forever grateful that he captured this moment in time. Here are a few pieces of his work that are available in our shop and online. We are stocked with special gifts this season. I woke up early with the intention of preparing my home for the season. For me this just means cleaning, discarding and adding greens. Then, after my 430am coffee I had visions of redoing everything and jonny gleefully awoke to help me with my dream. It was glorious I got to see everything moved into a new place. I was so happy. Then reality hit. It’s 515am. Jonny is still sleeping. He would not find this dream “glorious”. I then turned to a home we just worked on. I love a romantic laurel canyon abode. It checks all the boxes and look at the size of these rooms! I know small spaces are “in”. I live in one so I promote it but a giant bedroom!!!! All yeses!! I’m going to fix the bookshelves now. Have a nice day.

Our is a very impressive update. Mostly because a lot of love was put into it. That being said, who says tree houses are just for kids? If this were my pad, I would have to commander this spot. You should never be too old for a place to dream.
