My favorite case of the week ❤️Internal bleach technique was used to help change the discolored single tooth. No crowns or veneers were placed, and the patient got a beautiful natural esthetic result.

Teeth can become discolored for various reasons. More commonly seen, are single tooth discoloration caused by trauma. The trauma could be from a forceful impact or even from the occlusal traumas such as grinding or clenching.
If the color is the only issue, this can be addressed with a treatment we previously posted on called “walking bleach”
Or internal bleaching”. However, if it’s the size and shape of the teeth you also want to change, than veneers are the treatment of choice.
This case was a combination case, which included first root canaling and internally bleaching the discolored tooth, and then placing the veneers. The internal bleaching safeguards the colors of the veneers, so that there is not a potential of show through of the darkened color through the veneer.

Professional whitening is a great way of enhancing the brightness of a natural smile. However, don’t think professional whitening will make your teeth super super white, professional bleaching is meant to enhance YOUR natural shade by 3-5 times from your CURRENT tooth shade.
Due to the unique shade of the inner layer of the tooth, some patients may just have a natural darker pigment to their teeth, making it more difficult to achieve a brighter smile. In those cases you may want to look into bonding, or veneers to get the optimal brightness you desire.

My whitening regimen is significantly centered on practicing good oral hygiene daily. It’s not simply about just getting a good whitening product, it’s about seeing your hygienist for regular cleanings and practicing excellent oral care.

I do whiten my teeth professionally once or twice a year, and use a variety of home whitening solutions every so often as a “boost”, however the big secret is I also get my teeth cleaned every 3 months by an RDH and I never forget to brush before bed!

My best advice for keeping your teeth healthy and bright.
1. Brush daily using an electronic toothbrush with a soft oscillating round head (my go to is Oral B as it is well tested and very friendly to the teeth and tissue)
2. Floss before brushing (I do this once or twice a day but for sure right before bed) I love floss there are a variety you can chose from just choose what’s comfortable for you.
3. My trick of the trade is a waterpik a waterflosser with a little bit of colorless aseptic or colorless mouthrinse with fluoride ( whitening mouthrinse is my favorite) is such a wonderful at home tool to keep your teeth looking brighter and healthier longer. I just go with the basic Aquarius model and it has done wonders for maintaining the healthy and bright appearance of my teeth!
4. I wear a professionally made Nightguard nightly, so that my teeth do not get worn down as they naturally will overtime. Face it, we are getting older, our teeth will look more aged, protect them with a guard to minimize the natural wear.
5. Get your teeth cleaned by a registered dental hygienist 2-3 times a year!
