Ah! I’m so excited that this has finally arrived! I love Giant Robot! And no - not because I’m known for robots and it’s GIANT ROBOT. And no, I’m not Asian or Asian American, so it certainly doesn’t all affect me the same way it would for that population, but it certainly does hold a deep spot in my heart.
Growing up - in high school and in both the college and university l attended, my best friends were Japanese. I loved them. They loved me. I loved their culture and pop culture and they were happy to share it with me. In college and university, the groups were mainly art students. A bunch of us were in a bookstore together after a day of gallery hopping when we discovered Giant Robot (issue 19? maybe? 17? earlier? I can’t completely remember.) in the magazine section and it was AWESOME. A few of us bought copies and we passed them around. And that was that - that’s where my love for Giant Robot started and the hunt for new issues began. Years passed, our lives took different paths, and the friend groups drifted apart, but until its end, 1, and I’m sure many of them, read Giant Robot and are still following the shop and gallery to this day.
Congratulations to Eric and everyone involved at Giant Robot on THIRTY YEARS of amazing stories, moments, art, and touching peoples lives. Thank you for all of it. LOVES!
You can pick up your copy on their website and I’m sure many places are/will be stocking it. It’s definitely worth adding to your collection.
