Amazing sculpting project from Gnomon student Zachary Melder. This was the first full character Zachary completed in Gnomon's Digital Sculpting course. For his concept art, he turned to an artist he had long admired - Bogdan Rezunenko.
"I have followed this artist's work for many years prior to this class, so when it came time to pick concepts, choosing one was pretty easy," Zachary shared. "With my previous experience in ZBrush, I found that this project was a great opportunity to go all out on a crazy creature design while honing and experimenting with my own knowledge base, supported by an introductory Maxon ZBrush class."

Tanat is an environment artist, highly skilled in modeling, texturing, and set dressing and would be a great fit for game and virtual production studios! Explore more of his incredible work at www.natboon.com.

Congrats to Gnomon students Conlen Breheny and Gabriel Martinez, who won "Best of Term - Tool Development" during the Winter 2024 competition! The talented duo created this Nuke tool in Gnomon's Art of Compositing course taught by Martin Hall. Their lens sculpting tool allows artists to adjust the sharpness and softness of details in CG renders, resulting in a more photographic and cinematic effect that aligns with their creative and narrative intent.
"I have spent the last year deep-diving into image design, digital imaging, and color science, which is deeply entwined with cinematography," Conlen shared. "Through this, I discovered the value that master cinematographers place on lens texture through specific gear and post-production choices, and realized that CG artists can take a page out of this book to push our art to the next level."
We love seeing our students blend their technical and artistic sides to improve workflows for themselves and fellow creatives! Check out a more detailed breakdown of Conlen and Gabriel's tool, and download it for free, at https://conlen.gumroad.com.

This was Céline's first dialogue piece, which she created using Autodesk Maya in Gnomon's Demo Reel course taught by Hunter Grant. "Diving into dialogue meant learning about psychology, subtext, body language, character building complexity, phonemes, etc., which felt for a moment like learning animation all over again," Céline shared. "Such an interesting craft to put your hands on. I honestly can't wait to work on the next one!"

"Dynamics 3 was the class that really leveled me up in my Houdini skills, and I now feel very comfortable in the software," Gnomon student Nathan Vandevoort shared with us. Leveling up paid off for Nathan as he won "Best of Term - Effects | Weather" during the Winter 2024 competition for this stunning project! Nathan created this piece in Gnomon's Dynamic Effects 3 course taught by David Stripinis, and he incorporated the boat he modeled in our Texturing and Shading 2 course taught by Tran Ma.
The beautifully stylized boat and lanterns, modeled in Autodesk Maya and textured in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, blend seamlessly into the eerie storm scene. Simulations and animations were executed in Houdini, and the final render was achieved with Karma using Nathan's Envy rendering system, all composited in Foundry Nuke.
