Bloomberg gives $600 million to four Black medical schools' endowments Michael Bloomberg’s organization Bloomberg Philanthropies says it will give $600 million to the endowments of four historically Black medical schools.
Bloomberg Philanthropies has announced a historic $75 million gift to CDU, the largest in our University's history. This funding is part of a new $600 million initiative to bolster the endowments of the nation’s four Historically Black Medical Schools.
The new funding will increase the size of CDU’s endowment, representing a truly transformational moment in the history of our university and an important investment in the future of healthcare.

Happy 58th Birthday, CDU! 🥳🎉 The Charles R. Drew Postgraduate Medical School (CDU’s original name) was incorporated in the State of California as a private, non-profit education institution on August 3, 1966.
The Project STRIDE and ExStRM Research Training Programs held their Summer Research Symposium for their high school and undergraduate students. The students presented their summer projects and received feedback from CDU faculty, staff, and community members.
With mentorship from CDU faculty and students, these programs aim to increase the number of underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students in the research and health sciences pipeline.

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian, minority-serving medical and health sciences institution. Located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, CDU has graduated more than 550 medical doctors, 2,500 post-graduate physicians, more than 2,000 physician assistants and hundreds of other health professionals. The only dually designated Historically Black Graduate Institution and Hispanic Serving Health Professions School in the U.S., CDU is recognized as a leader in translational and health inequities research, specifically with respect to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, mental health, and HIV/AIDS. Recently, the CDU/UCLA medical program was named the best performer in the University of California System with respect to producing outstanding underrepresented minority physicians by the Greenlining Institute.
