The legendary “Beat It” video was released in 1983. I recently found this vintage Unicorn brand tee from 1983 in the same style as the MJ Piano shirt but in pink. I assume this pink shirt was made shortly after the video was released because in that “MJ Thriller” era, everything Michael wore was reproduced and sold to the masses.

After this shirt was released by 2K by Gingham in 2006 and sold at Lemon Rags it spawned thousands of copies in a every genres. You still see this particular design to this day.

How I acquired the shirt: When I had my store in Studio City an older man that was a retired sound engineer came in with a bag of shirts he wanted to get rid of, although I was in the business of selling shirts not buying, I noticed a few cool shirts in the bag so I jokingly offered him $10, and to my surprise he said yes. A few years later I was looking through some Macca photos for a story I was writing and saw this photo of him wearing it. I have never seen another one like it so I just pretend it was Sir Paul’s actual shirt (maybe) 🤔

I made this Detroit T-Shirt famous - The wardrobe department from always shopped at my store looking for tees for Mac - They called me before the season started and asked me to get some tees together that I thought he would like. This one was an instant hit and they had to buy multiple shirts and sizes and get proper film clearance papers sorted before the shoot 🎥
