🤔Can Invisalign fix an open bite or a bad bite?

💡First, let’s define what an open bite is. An open bite is anytime that the top teeth don’t touch the bottom teeth. There are a couple types of open bites, sometimes they occur with the front teeth and sometimes with the back teeth, usually due to poor tongue habits.

😁 Here is how Dr. Atoosa corrects an open bite:

In this case Dr. Atoosa choose non-surgical Invisalign to fix the open bite. A mild open bite is when the top teeth don’t quite touch the bottom teeth. Invisalign is used to help bring the top teeth down and the bottom teeth up. The top and bottom teeth will respond to the pressure and correctly realign and close the open bite.

We also use tongue training and myofunctional therapy to correct poor tongue habits to prevent relapse. 😁

So what is TMJ?

TMJ can cause specific pain in the head, eyes, mouth and teeth as well as the ears, jaw and body.The temporomandibular joint or TMJ acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. Dysfunction can lead to pain and discomfort.

Orthodontists are given specialized training to understand and treat TMJ. This distinction is crucial when determining which is best to seek help from for your TMJ disorder and who is most likely to ensure the best possible result.

TMJ conditions are complicated, and there are several diseases that can mimic TMJ pain. Orthodontics will be more qualified to treat your symptoms. When you make an appointment with Dr. Atoosa Nikaeen, you will receive the best care, experienced in TMJ treatment.

How we fix it:
PHASE I TMJ TREATMENT:
1.) Stabilization splints, which are worn to prevent teeth grinding and clenching. These types of splints cover all of the teeth and are typically just worn at night.
2.) Repositioning splints, which are splints designed to correct bite occlusions. These splints are typically worn all day, every day.

PHASE II TMJ TREATMENT :
TMJ splints are followed by orthodontic treatment to establish a new corrected bite.
These splints allow muscles and ligaments to relax and function properly. aw pain, headaches, painful ears, clicking and popping noises.
