Hey angels - with the new school year coming around you're going to see a lot of inspiring alumni work to celebrate our students no matter what year they graduated!!

Let's start tonight with someone many of you know, Emanuel Treason (Manny), featured in the latest Lighting and Sound America. CMU Lighting Design alum and Partner at NYXdesign, Manny is the lighting designer and the media consultant on The Legends of Luna project for all the new phase four lodges. The Baltimore/Perrysville locale at Great Wolf Lodge is the first installation of the design. The next lodges are being built this year are in Webster TX and Naples FL.

It is a themed show set inside the resort's' main bobby running 17 minutes. He designed all the lighting in the lobby, both architectural and theatrical, including custom designed chandeliers in the lobby which contains a lot of theatrical technology that is totally hidden from guests view.

He also helped to craft all of the generative elements of the project. This is an exciting new tool he is using to craft both lighting and animated elements within an immersive experience like this lobby.

Hey yall! We're so excited to invite you our April event: the West Coast Premiere of the Broadway Production of FAT HAM has arrived in Los Angeles along with alum Nikki Crawford, one of the show's stars. WCDCAC has secured a block of tickets on Wednesday, April 24 at The Geffen!

These section A mezzanine seats are normally $100 each, but we are offering them for just $40 each to dues paying members. (Pay dues here!)

We will also have the opportunity to participate in the talk back after the show with Nikki and the cast.

WCDAC is excited to host four-time Emmy Award-winning casting director John Frank Levey as our special guest on Saturday, January 27 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

John will be discussing his career and his book, RIGHT FOR THE ROLE with a Q & A to follow hosted by Drama Department alum, Megan Hilty ('04).

Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of John's book, courtesy of the WCDAC!!

A friend of Carnegie Mellon's Drama Department, John Frank Levey is a four time Emmy Award winning casting director. He has cast such iconic television shows as China Beach, ER, The West Wing, and Shameless, as well as dozens of other television series, miniseries, TV movies, digital series, video games, and feature films. Levey is also a five-time winner of the Casting Society of America's Artios Award and the recipient of its prestigious Hoyt Bowers Award, given for excellence in casting and outstanding contributions to the casting profession.

After decades at Warner Bros., Levey became Vice President of Casting for John Wells Productions before launching his casting company. Throughout his career, he has been a proud collaborator with many great writers, actors, producers, and directors-he is most gratified for the friendships he's forged and the talent he has helped foster. Levey is most proud of his children, Oliver Leo and Joanna Claire.

Please join us for our annual holiday party on Sunday, December 4th. We hope to see you all there and celebrate the season with you. Keep reading for some exciting news and important notes:

Meet the new Head of the School of Drama!
The new Head of the School of Drama, Robert Ramirez, will be coming out to Los Angeles to join us for the holiday party, along with a few other representatives from the school. This is your chance to meet Robert, get updates on the School of Drama, and make your voice heard if there's something you'd like to say.

What is Sliding Scale?
We are introducing sliding scale payments for the party and for dues this year! We know the industry can be weird, and the pandemic treated us all differently, and we want to be able to celebrate with you no matter how much is in your bank account. That being said, WCDAC survives on donations and dues, and without them we would not be able to fund events like this, or like Showcase! So please keep in mind that this is not meant for everyone to pay the least amount possible, but to encourage folks who find dues as a true obstacle to be able to join us. Reference the invitation for sliding scale rates; here's a guide to choose which one is right for you:
- As always, this year's grads are free!
- If you graduated in the last four years or make less than $50k, pay the lowest end of the scale
- If you graduated in the last five to fifteen years or make $50k - $100k, pay somewhere in the middle of the scale
- If you're not just surviving but thriving, please help us celebrate fifty-five years of WCDAC and pay the top of the scale (or more, and help sponsor someone else's membership)
- If you're Bezos or Zuckerberg, shoot for the stars... but we would be fine settling for $1 million
