Join the Pride Center, Q***r Studies, WRRC, and Gender and Women Studies for a candlelit vigil in the Plaza del Sol to honor the lives lost from the shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. The vigil will be Thursday, December 1st in the Plaza del Sol by the Sol Center windows. The vigil will begin outside at 5pm with students, faculty, and staff sharing thoughts and feelings.
At 6pm we will head up to the Pride Center on the 2nd floor of the Sol Center for coffee and snacks until 7pm. You are welcome to bring items to be added to our community altar for the victims of the shooting and all the trans lives we have lost this year.
We will not be having a regular Coffee Nights in the Pride Center this Thursday. We will be creating community space in the Pride Center at 6pm after the vigil.
The Pride Center is saddened, heartbroken, and enraged by the shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. We have taken time ourselves to even find the words to share after this tragedy and we hope you will all be kind and compassionate towards each other as we all grieve and process these events differently.
This horrific act of violence, on the eve of Trans Day of Remembrance, has taken cherished family and community members. We have chosen to focus our post here on honoring and celebrating the lives of: Daniel David Aston, Raymond Green, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh, and Derrick Rump. ย
It is imperative to act against homophobia, transphobia, and LGBQIA+ hate and violence. The impact of the harm done through misinformation, prejudice, and discrimination extends far beyond the moments of individual hurt. It manifests in anti-LGBTQIA+ policies and acts of violence that cause further death and devastation within our community.
We know our community at CSUN is experiencing heartbreak, fear, anxiety, anger, and shock. We are committed to creating inclusive spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community at CSUN, educating the campus community, and advocating for the needs of LGBTQIA+ students.
The Pride Center is here to offer you support and connection during this difficult time as we collectively grieve and process. In addition to the Pride Center, we would like to share additional resources of support:
-
Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00p

๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ Trans Remembrance Day is this Sunday, November 20th. In celebration of this day, we would like to highlight the STAR project founded by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.
The STAR project project was a gay, gender non-conforming and trans street activist organization. This project was aimed to provide shelter and food to homeless LGBTQIA+ youth.
It was the first LGBTQIA+ youth shelter in North America and was the first trans women of color led organization in the USA. โค๏ธ
