May is Stroke Awareness Month!

As we continue our efforts to bring stroke awareness to our communities, we recently joined Barrio Action Youth & Family Center 's food distribution event. The event helps meet the needs of those experiencing food shortages in and around the El Sereno/Los Angeles area. The USC Stroke Program volunteered side by side the food distribution volunteers and provided stroke education to 100+ people, teaching the community about stroke warning signs, risk factors and prevention.

The Barrio Action Youth & Family Center is a non-profit organization that offers free family & youth programs to Angelenos for over 30 years. They do important work and provide much needed services for their community. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your event!

Dr. Nerses Sanossian, vascular neurologist and stroke expert at Keck Medicine of USC, explains stroke symptoms and the F.A.S.T. warning signs.

If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms, it's important to call 911 and get medical attention as soon as possible. With every minute that goes by, 1.9 million neurons are lost. Time is brain!

We encourage you to be a STROKE HERO and share this information with friends & family. You could save a life!

At 41, Hub Miller suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. Hub has spasticity, a common post-stroke condition, and is unable to open and close his left hand, making daily activities challenging. But he is full of hope.

"I don’t measure my success day by day, but when I look back to a year ago, and where I am today, I am grateful every day how far I have come."
