Introducing M.S. in Accounting (MSA) student Emily Peterson, M.S. '25, who was honored to receive an AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Award and a Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholarship, both of which have been instrumental in supporting her educational and career goals.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in economics 📈 from the University of Southern California and working for a private equity fund in the education sector, Emily found herself drawn to the more quantitative aspects of her role. She pivoted into accounting as a senior accountant at Julien's Auctions, an entertainment industry auction house, where she manages daily financial operations and collaborates with a talented team of professionals.
Wanting to broaden her expertise, Emily was drawn to LMU's well-respected accounting program. After visiting the campus 🌴 and meeting the faculty, she knew it was the perfect place to advance her career.
After graduating, Emily aspires to pursue her CPA license and work as a CFO or controller. She also plans to become involved with personal finance education in Indigenous communities, a cause that is personally meaningful for her.
Emily shares with us, "I’m looking forward to being immersed in LMU’s supportive environment, broadening my accounting expertise, and connecting with a cohort of like-minded professionals. I am excited for the coming year and am proud to join the LMU family.” 🦁
Keep up the amazing work, Emily! 🌟 We're rooting for you!

In case you haven't heard, MELM is a new one-year master's degree program offered by and LMU School of Film and Television that develops creative, innovative, and business-savvy entertainment professionals. 🤩
Give it up for M.S. in Management (MSM) alumna Amber Lyons ’23, M.S. ’24, a media buying and planning resident at VaynerMedia. Amber skillfully manages media buying across platforms such as Meta, TikTok, and Snapchat for major brands. While the specifics are under wraps, she finds her role incredibly rewarding, thanks to VaynerMedia’s supportive and dynamic culture.
Her journey to VaynerMedia started with LMU - Career and Professional Development (CPD), and she highly recommends that students tap into the resources CPD offers to assist with their career advancement. During her time at LMU, Amber was a true campus leader. She played an active role in the Black community, collaborating closely with the Black admissions team, and served as a resident assistant for three years. Off campus, her passion for stand-up comedy has been a major focus, and she’s been making audiences laugh for over a year now.
Amber chose the MSM because it was for non-business majors and offered a 4+1 program for LMU seniors to take one MSM course each semester that counted toward her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Initially considering a double major in screenwriting and management, she realized that earning a master’s degree in just one extra year was the perfect way to balance her creative and business interests.
Looking ahead, Amber plans to continue her career in advertising, blending her creative instincts with her business acumen, while also pursuing stand-up comedy on the side. Her advice to future grad students is, "Leverage your professors — they’re invaluable resources — and make an effort to build genuine relationships with your classmates. No one should go through a master’s program feeling isolated, and LMU’s small class sizes make it easier to forge connections. Even if you’re an introvert, taking the first step to say ‘hi’ can go a long way."
Keep shining, Amber! 🌟 We’re cheering you on.

Sebastian Van Hemert ’22, M.S. ’24, had a busy summer in the M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) program and working as a research analyst at Northrop Grumman Corporation.
Last week, he and his MSBA teammates delivered their final capstone presentation to a large audience, including their client PromoShop, Inc., a promotional merchandise company located just down the bluff in Playa Vista. The project included analyzing consumer values expressed in Amazon reviews and aligning them with the company’s values using natural language processing (NLP) methods and leveraging large language models (LLMs).
At work, Sebastian specializes in crafting data-driven cost estimates for government satellite proposals and developing internal tools to streamline this process. He notes, “The technical skills and business acumen I developed in the MSBA program has been instrumental to my growth as a professional.”
His Northrop Grumman team was recently recognized at the company’s sector-level quarterly awards for their hard work meeting a very important tight deadline. “Adapting to managing multiple deliverables in such a fast-paced environment was initially challenging, but it became a career-changing experience. I developed invaluable skills in prioritization, teamwork, and communication, thanks to the support of my exceptional team.”
Congratulations, Sebastian! This summer has been challenging and rewarding, and we can’t wait to hear where your MSBA degree will take you.

We’re thrilled to feature Jacqueline Maher, MBA '25, a passionate student focusing on marketing and entrepreneurship. This summer, Jacqueline has been making the most of her experience in the prestigious Procter & Gamble (P&G) MBA Rising Leaders program, which is a pathway to becoming a senior brand manager for one of their many brands.
"I’ve loved every second of the program. I’ve learned so much about the in-depth training P&G provides for its brand managers and how many of its alumni go on to become CMOs and CEOs at other companies. That was very inspiring to me."
Jacqueline first heard about the program through LMU - Career and Professional Development, and she’s excited to continue her journey with a 12-week summer internship at P&G’s Cincinnati headquarters next summer. This September, she'll visit P&G to dive even deeper into the company’s world-class brand management training.
Jacqueline is eager to apply the insights and strategies she’s gained in "Branding with Purpose" with Julian Saint Clair, associate professor of marketing, to her upcoming internship and beyond.
Congratulations, Jacqueline, on all your accomplishments. We wish you all the best!

Give it up for Carter Wilson ’19, MBA ’25, a human resource intern at EVgo Network, one of the nation's largest public fast-charging networks for electric vehicles. The LMU MBA program has been instrumental in sharpening his skills, especially with Tableau and Excel, which he uses daily in the HR department.
Carter chose the LMU MBA program due to his positive experience as an LMU undergraduate and the influence of his undergraduate advisor, Jason D'Mello, associate professor of entrepreneurship. The dedication of LMU’s professors to students’ success was a significant factor in his decision to return to LMU as a graduate business student. Introducing Pamela Corante, MBA ’17, vice president of global communications at the Motion Picture Association, a leading advocate for the film, television, and streaming industry worldwide. 🎥 She was drawn to the LMU MBA program’s advantageous professor-to-student ratio. “The small class sizes allowed you to get to know your professors and fellow students, which was conducive to some great class discussions.”
When Pamela started her MBA, she was running her own consulting business, and the insights from classes had an immediate impact on her work, particularly organizational behavior and information technology. Her MBA focus in international management has made a significant impact on her work leading a global association.🌎 “The LMU College of Business Administration did a terrific job designing a global curriculum that was relevant and applicable, especially in international marketing and performance management.”
During her time at LMU, Pamela had the opportunity to take two international classes that had a travel abroad component ✈️ – Business in the EU in Bonn, Germany, and a year-long Comparative Management Systems course where students traveled to Greece, Austria, Spain, and Italy that year. “It’s one thing to read about or attend lectures on global business, and it’s another to be immersed in the culture, meeting with local business people in their home countries and gaining first-hand experience on bridging distances, identifying shared goals, and exchanging ideas.”
Pamela fondly remembers her MBA professors and would like to thank Charles Vance, emeritus professor of management. His performance management forever changed her as a people manager. She also thanks Robbie Nakatsu, professor of information systems and business analytics, for his practical teaching approach toward information systems, and Anatoly Zhuplev, professor of management, for bringing global entrepreneurship to life with his engaging lectures and hands-on, immersive projects.
Pamela wholeheartedly recommends the LMU MBA program, especially for anyone who thinks it may be too late in their career to get an MBA.
