The CDE Special Education Division has partnered with WestEd to develop resources supporting how students with disabilities can demonstrate proficiency in their high school courses. By Summer 2025, the resources will be made available for use via the CDE CalTan website, so that educational communities will be able to adopt these resources to offer alternative means of expression for students with disabilities to use when communicating proficiency in various courses as required for graduation. 🎓✨
Add your contributions to the ongoing development of these resources by visiting the initiative webpage and sharing feedback via https://altmeans.org/

From California Department of Developmental Services:
Dear Community Partners:
We are excited to announce that Phase 1 of the Provider Directory is launching Tuesday, October 29. For this phase, only select regional center staff and service providers can access the directory.
On October 29, 2024, service providers will receive an e-mail invitation to register for the Directory. They will verify that their information, which is populated into the Provider Directory from existing DDS sources, is accurate. When necessary, service providers can update information and submit changes to be approved by regional center staff.
This is a big task and to be successful we need service providers to participate. DDS will offer incentive payments to service providers who complete this step by November 29, 2024 through the Quality Incentive Program (QIP). (https://www.dds.ca.gov/rc/vendor-provider/quality-incentive-program/) For service providers included in rate reform, participation in the Provider Directory measures is the only way to attain the up to 10 percent quality incentive portion of the reimbursement rate from January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Additional information on the incentives can be found in the Department directive. (https://www.dds.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/D-2024-QIP-003_Quality_Incentive_Program_Provider_Directory.pdf)

Our 🎃Pumpkin Deep Breathing Exercise🎃 started a self-regulation phenomenon on our website and across the internet years back!
Hold a small pumpkin in the palm of your hand. Use your pointer finger of your other hand to slowly trace up a ridge and breathe in. Then trace down another ridge and breathe out. Continue tracing the ridges of the pumpkin while deeply breathing in and out.
🎃The weight of the pumpkin on the arches of the palm of the hand= PROPRIOCEPTIVE sensory system.
🎃Engaging the TACTILE sensory system to trace the ridges of a smooth surface.
🎃Deep Breaths combined with a visual focus offers PROPRIOCEPTIVE input through the lungs and diaphragm. Engage belly breathing for more impact.
🎃Using both sides of the body (BILATERAL COORDINATION)- Holding the pumpkin with one hand and tracing with the other hand.
Want the printable poster AND coloring page to use in therapy sessions, in the home, and even during trick-or-treating or Halloween parties?? Get a copy here: https://www.theottoolbox.com/pumpkin-deep-breathing-exercise/
