Who would have known fashion could be such a powerful tool? It’s a universal language that has enabled us to have some of the most meaningful conversations and experiences, and impact on those overcoming abuse.

How do you use fashion? Has it helped you heal?

The young girls in this photo are survivors of trafficking. Their voices have been silenced in ways most of us will never understand, but when it comes to fashion and beauty, they light up, speak up, and have opinions. It’s so cool to see. We lean into this and fan the flame of fashion’s power. We’ve seen remarkable transformations because of it.

Not to mention the social pressures of students and how it has unnecessary stress to those already struggling to survive.
What we do is a big deal and is about more than dresses.

A decade ago, our executive director and domestic violence survivor, Laverne Delgado, pioneered unique programs aimed at unleashing survivors’ strength through fashion and beauty. In our classrooms, we delve into trade-driven industries while initiating vital dialogues on self-image and character development. By melding job training with coaching techniques, our programs bolster the creative right hemisphere of the brain, empowering students to envision anew, achieve lofty goals, and heal from past traumas.

Over the years, the poignant journeys of these programs have come alive in narrative-rich fashion shows, open to the public. These shows honor our survivors, raise awareness about the injustices they are conquering (s*x trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness, etc.), and support them through funds generated.

Since the inception of our programs, many graduates have returned as mentors, volunteers, and advocates, extending their support to others confronting similar challenges and injustices.

Furthermore, our impact extends to providing essential resources such as clothing, hygiene products, food, water, and gifts to thousands of families.

Fashion and beauty have proven to be effective tools in our efforts to assist survivors of abuse.🤎
