🌱 We just love spring time over here at Silver Rayne Farms!!
We are starting a variety of flowers, Aunt Molly’s ground cherries, pineapple tomatoes, black beauty tomatoes, golden honey peppers, and pumpkin spice jalapeño peppers.
We should have some starter plants ready for sale in a few weeks and will be starting more as the weather gets warmer! ☀️💚
It’s that time of year… we are welcoming new calves every day! So far everyone is perfectly healthy and looking adorable!
Chicks are back at the farm! We have missed having chickens around so we had to bring some home today.
The kids are excited because they’re so cute, I’m excited because these guys will eat lots of bugs and give us breakfast!! 🐥❤️
Spring is here and it’s time to get dirty… in the garden! 👩🏼🌾🌱
Just added 15 new strawberry plants to our garden, which is a big step up from 4 last year. 🍓 The fruit trees are blooming beautifully, especially the peach trees with all the beautiful pink blooms that the bees absolutely LOVE. 🌸🐝 💕 Our sunflowers just started poking through the dirt and our tiny little blueberry bush is budding and getting ready to bloom too!
We need to head to the nursery and get some more plants, we need something for the beds around the trees. What are some of your favorite plants to put in around trees?? 🌿🌷
Facts 🐮
We have the most amazing sunsets out here, it looks like Mother Nature has painted the sky! 🎨 We will always be in awe of her beauty and all that she provides. 🌎💚
#139 is one of our currently bred angus cattle, she was bred by Silver Rayne Farms in 2018. She is now 4 years old and has had 2 calves of her own, and she will have her third this fall!
#139 is also one of our most photogenic cows, look at her just standing there perfectly to get her photo taken in the snow! 🖤❄️
Silver Rayne Farms is a collection of several small, local, family owned and operated farms throughout Miami & Linn county, KS. Our main farm, located in Louisburg, is the one that we run our cattle operation out of and where we, the Rayne family, live.
Here on our farm, we not only raise and breed cattle, we also have a small orchard, garden, honey bees, and when it warms up, we will have chickens for fresh eggs.
Family is important to us at Silver Rayne Farms. On our farm we not only include our children, but also our siblings, parents, and grandparents as well. You can't have the family farm without the family! ❤️
🥶 We are done with these shenanigans. Bring on spring!!
❄️ It’s time to make some bone broth now that second winter is back. (Maybe it’s third winter? I’ve lost track with this back and forth weather!)
We are using the soup bones from one of our cows that we had butchered. Making bone broth is so simple! Be sure to blanch the bones first, then roast them in the oven with some veggies til nice and golden, and it’s ready to simmer!
☕️ What do you like to do with your bone broth? Personally, I enjoy drinking a hot cup of it in the morning in place of coffee. It’s so savory and delicious!
These nice temps have us yearning for warmer days! ☀️ We are ready to spend more time fishing, exploring, and having fun on the farm!
Say "Hello" to Pepper!!
Pepper is a bottle calf from 2018 and is the unoffical mascot of Silver Rayne Farms. She was abandoned in the middle of winter, so we brought her in and raised her in our garage until she was stable enough to move out to the barn. She is now having calves of her own and thriving. 🖤
Now that it's getting close to spring, we are getting excited about starting our new flock! Counting down the days until Chick Days!! 🐣
Here's a photo of our Sapphire Gem hen from our previous flock.
