Our approach is one of patience... We work with your body, moving with fascia as it gives, respectfully waiting for a response... this is Bodiwork.

Posted • This is why myofascial massage is a breakthrough! 🎉

Fascia is our largest sensory organ. It's a web of connective tissue that extends into every structure of our bodies, covering every organ, gland and muscle without beginning or end.

As massage therapists, we are able to use our touch to very powerfully stimulate the sensory receptors in fascia. This sensory input can help deactivate the fight-or-flight response and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body return to homostasis. ❄️

Without creating this relaxation response, the discomforts and pains that we work on during a massage session will most likely return as soon as the nervous system flares up again. 🔥

Knowing how to process, feel and being able to release trauma is not simple. We need to gain nervous system awareness, education and build CAPACITY to be with the stressors in the moment so that we feel them, sense them, and not over ride stress by disconnecting, shutting down or protecting. .

Education on how your stress physiology works is fundamental to healing trauma /stress in the body.

It starts by listening to your physiology and being tuned to sensations, feelings and knowing what the system needs to work with in the present moment.

When we build up capacity to be with sensations, we are able to process the overwhelm and release stored stress in the body and in real time.

If you are curious in deepening your experience of yourself and want to discover how to build capacity,
so you can shift out of your survival patterns and heal stress and trauma with ease,
this is my job and what I teach!

🌞😎SUMMER BODY MELTING VIBES🔥
We love our fabrics at Mbodi. Sustainable towels made of fabric that uses less water, reuses plastics, and holds up so well we can wash them every day. We replaced our blankets with these towels and have been so happy!

BOLSTERS CAN PROVIDE THE SUPPORT YOUR BODY'S NEEDS FOR DEEPER REST.

"Everybody's body and needs are different and unique. So really bolstering is just a way that we try to support that concept in our sessions with clients- that we all have different body types and different needs. Especially those of us who might have a compromised situation positionally where we lay down and then our low back hurts. So that would be an indication that we need different support for our back muscles to relax.
There are lots of different ways to bolster, but it all comes back to the fact that we have different body types and different body needs, and this is our way of honoring that."
-Misha Tsozik, Founder and lead therapist of Mbodi

Ask your therapist about bolstering and supportive positioning at your next appointment! Our goal is to help your body be as comfortable and supported as possible throughout your session!

If you have ever met Misha or any of the therapists at Mbodi, you know we LOVE to learn. One of the ways we become better therapists and better people is by learning about how our bodies work. Learning about how to support our minds and bodies is crucial to taking our therapy out into the world with us.
And for the women in our community: we have a book recommendation for you!
Divergent Mind is all about understanding how your neuro-divergent mind works and the support you can give yourself while trying to navigate a world of overwhelming stimulus input. Statistics show that 1 in 3 Americans are neuro-divergent. This includes diversities such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, bipolar etc.
Author Jenara Nerenberg is passionate about reframing the various needs of our nervous systems, and supports using diagnostic labels as a means to liberate and empower rather than pathologize the many different way our brains process stimulus. Highlighting neurological diversity, and celebrating the variety of ways our brains function and respond to stimulus, Nerenberg's writing is a great way to learn how to support neurodiversity in your life, relationships, and in the workplace.
If you are a woman who wants to support your brain, this is the book for you!

Why do we use our feet to massage?

Barefoot techniques provide a moderate to heavy pressure on the body and creates a relaxing, therapeutic effect not dissimilar to using a weighted blanket. The broad surface of the foot allows for consistent, deep pressure that doesn't feel pointed or hard, like an elbow or forearm may feel in a traditional deep tissue massage. Even clients who have had negative experiences with deep tissue have reported that this style is a type of heavy pressure they can enjoy.

Not only is barefoot massage beneficial to the client, but it also protects the bodies of the therapists from injury and burnout. Barefoot allows our therapists to employ deeper pressure into their sessions with less strain on their joints and muscles. It's a Win Win and we love supporting therapists so they can to continue support their clients for a long long time.

At Mbodi, we are expertly skilled in barefoot approaches to massage and bodywork, and all our therapists are trained in either Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage or Sarga Bodywork.

🔥Sauna before or after bodywork?
one of our most FAQs…
BEFORE:
——————
WARMING the soft tissues of the body BEFORE can help increase the range of motion and flexibility of muscles, joints, and fascia.
When applied before bodywork, heat can help the body relax, making deeper pressure more accessible to the therapist and easier to receive for the client🥳
AFTER:
——————
Using whole body heating methods like infrared sauna can gently elevate the heart rate, which can help the nervous system mindfully adjust after the deep state of relaxation achieved in longer bodywork sessions (think 75 - 120 minutes).
Have you ever felt drunk or high or generally loopy after bodywork? Utilizing a short sauna session (20 minutes or less) can help you become more alert before you leave the studio. 👀

Happy National Relaxation Day!
We see you out there… grinding away at the work of every day living. It’s challenging to be human. You deserve a moment to connect with stillness.
You may find it challenging to put down your ‘to-do’ list, and you would not be alone. Our economy runs on a work-addicted culture promoting near constant movement and productivity.
In an act of brilliant resistance: take a break today… Hell, take a break every day. We are all deserving of the peace that comes with rest.

SAFE(R) PRACTICES
No practice of bodywork is without risk, so making a promise of complete safety is not something we offer. However, at MBODI, we aim to practice ‘safer’ bodywork by taking extra measures beyond the bare minimum to reduce the risk of harm, illness, or injury. Prioritizing client and therapist safety has always been a part of our approach, and as we see guests returning to the studio, we want you to know we are still taking care to provide you with a safe(r) space to relax and care for your body.

Mbodi Life.

We are so humbled to have this incredible opportunity to bring our professional skills as therapists, and our personal philosophies of love, peace, and mindfulness together to create MBODI. This space is a reflection of the path we walk everyday back to ourselves so we can be healthy, loving, peaceful parents to our children, members of our family and community, and of course, stronger in our marriage.

We both have struggled with anxiety in the face of starting a family and business, and are committed to the practices we share with our community as ways to unwind, destress, and find a sense of ‘ok-ness’ amidst the chaos life can bring. We want you to know you are not alone, and have created a space where you can begin to discover yourself and a community of people on this same crazy ride called life.
