Design your new kitchen with your cabinet overlay style in mind! Not planning properly can have an drastic effect on the overall function of the kitchen...

We've witnessed many homes where proper space allocations haven't been made. This results in appliances not functioning, doors not having the proper clearances...and the overall quality of the kitchen diminished.

A few things below to consider when using each type of overlay in your new space...They might come in handy when planning your rennovation..

"Standard overlay"- Loose unnessecary fillers and maximize your cabinet space. The door clearances have already been accounted for! Your doors don't cover the entire face frame which allow for doors to clear past 90 degrees.

"Full overlay" Use at least a 1" filler whenever cabinetry is butting against a return wall, or when the cabinet or panel next to it is deeper.

If your framing a new construction bathroom that's wall to wall...skip the standard 61" and 73" rough outs! A lot for a 63" or 75" opening instead!

"Inset" Make sure your installers have installed inset cabinets before! 😂 These will require a more precise installation where wall cabinets must also be leveled against the back wall. Door adjustments will also have to be precise to doors and drawers because of humidity levels changing in the home. Expanding doors without proper clearances will cause rubbing!

A few tips when considering your next kitchen rennovation!

🔨 Cabinetry to the ceiling can make your kitchen look much larger.

🔨 Always consider your walk ways and clearances for appliances. Minimum NKBA standards are 36". We prefer 42" walkways whenever possible.

🔨 It's not mandatory that you have a window for natural light, especially if the window creates an awkward design. Do make sure your space is well lit, recess lighting and under cabinet lighting can made a big difference in the overall feel.

🔨 When doing an island or pen*sula, consider doing a waterfall edge for a cleaner look.

This client came to us with an existing kitchen and an open space they wanted to transition.
Floating shelves and cabinets with glass doors kept it feeling open and inviting! We used a stained cinder cabinet on the bottom to provide contrast and pull in color...but also to keep the white from being overwhelming. An under-counter fridge,microwave drawer, and pull out shelves added some additional function.

💪 💪 A challange our team encountered was the countertops. The length of the back wall exceeded the length of the quartz counters they selected by nearly 2". Another company said it wasn't possible without a visable seam, but we seamed the counters twice under each sidesplashes to keep them from being visable.

Did you know that the number ☝️ place people overspend 💰 on a kitchen rennovation is their cabinets. It doesn't have to be this way!
