Competitive Swimmer Finds Her Calling as a Physical Therapist 08/13/2024

Assoc. Teaching Prof. of the UMass Lowell Department of Physical Therapy and Kinesiology Michele Fox ’94, ’06 realized her love of swimming in the ocean while racing in the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay.

From April to November, she swims most days off the coast of Newburyport, Gloucester or Falmouth, Massachusetts, in ocean temperatures as cold as 50 degrees.

Caroline Klim 07/29/2024

Caroline Klim’s inspiration to help others comes from her family of health care professionals. Klim is a third-generation nurse, and her grandfather was a surgeon.

“These are some of the people I look up to the most in my life for their care and service to others,” the Wrentham, Massachusetts, native says. “I try to apply what I’ve learned from them every single day.”

At UMass Lowell, Klim has found many opportunities to do just that.

She is a co-founder of the UMass Lowell chapter of Morgan’s Message, a nonprofit that aims to eliminate the stigma around mental health in the student-athlete community.

The nursing students performed blood pressure screenings and provided evidence-based educational handouts on hypertension, DASH diet, and exercise to more than 60 older adults at the Dracut Counsel on Aging.
