Home visitation was developed over 30 years ago as a tool to increase school readiness in children and currently serves thousands of children annually on the national level. It has evolved and changed as more evidence-based research has revealed how children best learn and grow. Certified educators work with both a parent and a child through twice a month home visits. Home is one of the environments a child is most comfortable in and learns best in. Parents may receive help with parenting challenges but also learn ways to stimulate and engage their child's learning which begins at birth. Children enjoy targeted play activities with their parent and educator that assist in helping children to reach those all-important age-appropriate developmental milestones.
In addition to home visits families receive:
Age-Appropriate Developmental Screenings for their child to insure children are meeting milestones
Group Activities for families – Storytime and other special events
Resource Referral - Increases family’s awareness of other resources in the community that may assist family
Available to families living in Lubbock County expecting a baby up to age 5. No costs for families to participate. For more information see our website at www.parentingcottage.org or call (806) 795-7552.
