We are excited to welcome and introduce Dr. Thomas E. Hutson, D.O., Pharm.D., as the new Medical Director of the UMC Cancer Center and Division Chief of Hematology & Oncology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.
Dr. Hutson is an internationally acclaimed expert and brings over 20 years of experience in cancer research and treatment. He has held significant leadership roles at Baylor University Medical Center and renowned research organizations, such as the Sarah Cannon Research Institute.
As Medical Director of the brand new UMC Cancer Center, opening in 2026, Dr. Hutson aims to establish the new center as a leading destination for cancer care, allowing patients to receive comprehensive treatment locally, so they can stay close to home and their families.
Together, UMC and Texas Tech Heath Sciences Center are committed to offering the highest quality cancer care and support to patients and their families throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

The partnership between UMC and Literacy Lubbock provides no-cost educational opportunities, including General Education Diploma (GED) and English as a Second Language (ESL) resources for our employees. UMC is the first employer to offer on-site classes through Literacy Lubbock, with sessions scheduled during shift changes to make attendance easier.

Gabriel went above and beyond for a family from Japan that was hospitalized following a car accident. Their belongings, including passports, were stuck at an impound lot in Childress. Gabriel drove three hours round trip to retrieve their items from the impound lot, allowing them to return home.
