The outside lane of I-35 northbound at mile marker 31 in Ardmore, OK is closed due to this. It appears the driver was raising his trailer as he was going down I-35 and did not know it until it hit the sign and ripped it off his truck. Wrecker company is currently trying to get a crane up to get the trailer down but there will be a slow down in this area for much of the morning. There were no injuries.

Boyd Police Department to begin commercial vehicle enforcement!

Commercial vehicles will soon face another law enforcement agency that can enforce federal traffic laws in Wise County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has approved the Boyd Police Department to work commercial vehicle enforcement, which is a first for local Wise County law enforcement agencies.

Boyd Police Chief Jason Schmidt said the department applied to conduct commercial vehicle enforcement due to citizen outcry about overloaded 18-wheelers and tractor trailers.

“We’ve had so many complaints about commercial vehicles, when you get stuck on 114 by a truck that’s overloaded, those are the dangerous trucks,” Schmidt said. “It causes road rage, traffic problems, and when drivers are getting stuck behind a truck that can’t do more than 35 mph, then we have people passing in the median or the shoulder. That’s a safety concern.”

Select officers will undergo commercial vehicle enforcement training in Austin, Schmidt said. Once training is completed, the department will have the capability to perform full truck inspections. Commercial vehicles are defined as trucks that weigh over 26,000 pounds.

“We’ll be able to weigh them and do full truck inspections, just like any DPS trooper can,” Schmidt said.
