***LONG POST WARNING***

Let me first acknowledge two things. One, Texans are losing their homes and livelihood in the panhandle, so if this is the worst thing that happens to us today, The Lord has truly blessed us. Next, lives were irreparably changed last night. We are praying for those people and their families. It just didn't happen here.
Repeat: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN HERE.

Normally, I wouldn't even make this post. Those that know me know I do not take social too seriously. In fact, I rarely take it at all. But one of our first tables this morning asks for 4 seats. Then, after a few minutes they inform their server, "the other two won't be joining us because of 'the shooting' last night." Our dear friend's from Cook's Garage check in here for lunch, and receive comments like, "You're eating there after they had a shooting!?" Our local media wrongfully reported the nature of this incident on so many levels and it has damaged our reputation, lessened our traffic, and thus, diminished our staff's take home pay. Since 6:00am I have been inundated with messages, tagged here on Facebook, and fielded phone calls to try and turn the tide of this ridiculous narrative. What started as, "shooting at Garcia's restaurant!" then turned to, "stabbing at local restaurant" then, "stabbing in parking lot near local restaurant..." And, then finally, "incident reported on Slide rd....more as we know it because we don't know anything...."
The headline wasn't changed until I personally called to try and bring clarity. I have asked these local news outlets for a retraction, of course. A simple edit, hours after the damage is done, is not enough. I am of the opinion that a public apology to my servers is also in order.
Regrettably, now the narrative is that we haven't spent the last 20 years fostering a family friendly environment for our guests and employees. People will, quite literally, never patronize our establishment again because they live for the consumption of half-cocked click bait. And for what? So some keyboard warrior can be the first to post their sensationalism without gathering even the most basic elemental facts. We make a living selling $9 plates, essentially. It's hard enough to achieve that objective as it is.
Frustrating, to say the least. Had they bothered to even check our hours of operation, they would have clearly seen that we had been closed for two hours BEFORE this incident was even reported.

To the dozens of people who reached out early this morning to make sure our family, both immediate and work extended, were not in harms way, THANK YOU. You are dear friends at no mistake.

We are here. We are ready to serve you.

-No parties larger than 6, as mandated
-Appropriate distance between tables
-Disposable menus
-Sanitized tables between every seating
-Shakers available upon request, and will be sanitized after each use
-Timed cleaning and sanitizing of hard surfaces, overseen by managers
-All service staff will be wearing gloves and masks
-in the event we are at capacity, customers will be asked to wait on the shaded patio with distance guidelines observed
-Hand Sanitizer available for customers upon entry
