A Place For Us Greyhounds Rescue & Adoption
Let a Greyhound race into your heart! A 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization finding homes for Greyhounds that were bred to race and hunt.
Founded in Edgewood, NM and operating out of Lubbock, TX. The rescue group will adopt out-of-town and has active volunteers to expedite the adoption process in several locations including Midland/Odessa, Abilene (TX), El Paso, and in New Mexico where other groups cannot serve such as Carlsbad, and areas near El Paso.
Indy is still as regal as ever. She tries to play like a puppy and we have to remind her she’s not. The walks are getting shorter as she stumbles sometimes. There are less car rides to the puppy store because it’s hard for her to get around. Our last time out she decided she was an old lady and could just take a treat from a bin and walk out. We’ve had to say goodbye to her sister which was very hard. We look at Indy knowing we don’t have much longer but we will love what time we have left.
Cotton was having fun today. He's got some pretty good moves for a 6-year old. I love the one where he's sneaking off to bury the hedgehog and when I asked him about it--he was looking all innocent and said to me, "Hedgehog--What Hedgehog?" LOL I forgot to let everyone know--but Cotton has been around kids--just in case you are considering adopting him.
Paul and his son, John adopted Tracer today! We are so happy and excited to share this news. :)
Sidney adopted Buck today. Every picture tells a story--and be sure and click on the last one showing "Lubbock, Texas in the Rear View Mirror". Sidney is not stranger to loving Greyhounds and when she lived in Lubbock--she adopted an Brood Momma named Salsa and was determined to add another Greyhound to her life someday after Salsa passed on. Sidney had trouble deciding between Buck and his brother-Cotton--so she has decided to rename Buck--High Cotton! Sweet...

Shandy has a family! Anna and her husband, Jarod adopted her today--they are now driving back home to El Paso--to live happily ever after. (Sweet!) Huge thanks to Wendy Ogelsby for helping us test Shandy with her cats.
GREYT NEWS! Larry adopted Lincoln, yesterday. We met in Amarillo and the two of them traveled to Colorado, Larry's home and Lincoln's new home, in time for supper. Larry adopted Stefanos from us a few months ago. Stefanos needed a buddy since Larry's older Greyhound recently passed away. We are happy that Lincoln found a home and that Larry opened his home and heart for another Greyhound.
Shandy has her spay today. She is doing well. Her first appointment at Live Oak South, immediately after her rescue, was memorable. But, since that time--she has developed trust and is easier to manage on the leash. She enjoyed the car-ride. I got tickled when she stood behind me and would sometimes bop me on the head with her nose. I think that's a first! Funny girl--if she is cat-tolerant, we have a family waiting to adopt her. I will keep everyone posted!
The results are in! Shandy is 51% Sighthound and 100% love! We have a family interested in adopting her--I need to find some way to be sure she is okay to live with cats. If any of you that live in Lubbock want to help--please contact me. Happy weekend! Linda, phone 8067878530
Is she or isn't she (a Sighthound)? Only her DNA knows for sure! Meet Shandy who was rescued on July 3rd from a perilous situation as she was found running loose for over a week in an area of the county where we are pretty sure the locals shoot off lots of fireworks. We feel certain she would've been so frightened that it would have ended poorly for her. Two very nice ladies--Sabrina and her sister, Tiffany spotted Shandy and wanted to help her. They did an awesome job feeding her for several days and finally loading her up in the car. We think Shandy is about 1-year old. She hasn't had any leash training; but is catching on quickly. We are so greytful to be able to help her!! LEAVE A COMMENT TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT BREED(S) YOU THINK SHE IS!
Take a look at Shiner's DNA results. Very interesting! He had his neuter today and also a series of x-rays while under sedation. He's resting up at Live Oak South, overnight. Stay tuned for the x-ray results!
Hi everyone! I’m enjoying my car ride today. 😀In 2 hours, I will be home. I’m over the moon with happiness. All the best, Scottie
Scottie here with an update. First of all--huge thanks to all of you that commented on my last post--that was swell. And--just today, I learned that I have been pre-adopted! Very cool. I am moving to Rio Rancho, New Mexico on Friday. I have already scheduled my departure bath and am packing my bags! Linda showed me a pic of my new family which includes three Greyhounds named Lottie, Sadie, and Maverick--and wow--you should see the doggy beds--very plush. My humans will be Andrea and Chris Hazuda. I am over the moon with happiness! All the best, Scottie. :)
This is Shiner. He's the little guy that was in Canyon's Animal Shelter. He seems young and has an injury on his right lower leg. We will take him in for a checkup next week. Shiner has a wonderful attitude--he seems very loving and is definitely friendly! Sweet!!!
Huge thanks to Michelle Sulik for bringing him to our attention!
GREYT NEWS! Riley is moving to ABQ, tomorrow. We will post pics, soon.
We are needing to rehome this sweet girl Riley! She is about 4 years old and has lived with small children and a pug. Riley is house trained and crate trained and good on a leash. The reason for her being rehomed is not from anything she did but her family have had to make some changes in their home situation and they cannot keep her and this decision is very hard for them. We plan on acquiring her sometime this week to our rescue kennel but it is really a hard adjustment for a dog who has been living in a home to adapt being at a rescue kennel. Please no negative comments towards the family as they are trying to do the right thing and best thing for her. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in Riley.
Hey there--Scottie here. It's been awhile since I've been in touch. Lots of excitement on my walk today. I spotted a bunny--I took off--but Linda held on tight. All kinds of critters. Linda said--"you still got it, Scottie!" I wanted to mention that my energy and sense of feeling well is due to all the GREYT care I've gotten since I arrived last summer. They figured out that I am about 9-years old. I don't really remember how I got these battle scars on my face. But, I do remember a pretty rough life--not enough food, lots of pain (it's arthritis), and uncertainty. Sure, it's fun to chase after rabbits--but it's a hard life on an old fella like me. The rescue group--they're helping me so much--great food, lots of attention, and medicine for my pain. I am looking for a home--a soft bed would be wonderful, and lots of pet-pets. I really like to take naps. Since I have hunted and still have a impressive prey drive--a home without cats and/or small dogs is a good fit. Have a good weekend! All the best, Scottie. :)
Stefanos has been adopted !! Larry drove all the way from Loveland Colorado to meet him and it was a perfect match for both of them ! Stefanos will have a buddy waiting for him at home named Landing who is a 9yr old retired racer. We are very excited for Stefanos and his new forever home !!💕🥰
Hey--Beckham here. I figured y'all might want to know the rest of the story! On Tuesday, I got a bath. hmmm. And then Linda Dunn along with her husband, Bryan Dunn let me run around the yard a bit. There was this cute, young dog named Remi to play with. Next thing you know--I am in the SUV--and look at that--Remi also jumped in to hitch a ride. One thing about Remi--she's awfully cute and has absolutely no concept of social distancing. Oh man! We managed to sort things out, but it was a bit tense at first. "Where are they taking me?" We watched a very long freight train in Farwell. Finally, we crossed the tracks and they announced that we were in New Mexico. Okay--whatever that means. I think I fell asleep for a bit. Remi on the other hand--she was napping most of the way! Silly girl. Fort Sumner, Billy the Kid, what next? There he was--My Uncle Patchi with his family--Mel and Michelle. "This is AWESOME!" and Remi--she took off in another car with Janet (her new Mom) to their home in Edgewood. . What a splendid day! ...And to all A Good Night!
Beckham, "So, I've been pre-adopted--What the heck does that mean?"
It means that someone plans to adopt you soon and make you a part of their family.
Beckham, "Cool"
You will live with a nice family from Los Alamos, NM who adopted your uncle 2 years ago--he was known as Freedom and they have renamed him Patchi.
Beckham, "An uncle. Who knew? I'll pack my bags! Let's go!!"
Lincoln is all sighthound and really lovable. He's Tracer's brother and barely one-year old.
Oh man! Look at Teddy's DNA. That's pretty wild, isn't it?
Tracer's DNA. Very interesting. We think he's a Blue Brindle (albeit faded) Come out and meet him to see what you think! He's looking for a home. :)
If you're into genealogy--take a look at these three because we have verified that Buck, Cotton, and Sally are siblings. Sally got adopted last year and lives in Hobbs. She is in the last pic stealing her Dad's very comfortable chair! cool...
🎉🐾Remi was a part of the litter of puppies that we had gotten this past year ( remember sweet Willie & those girls?). She was actually sold to someone by their owner before they relinquished the others to us. Remi was then at a shelter up in the Amarillo area this past week having been relinquished by her new owner& luck be it they contacted our friends at the Italian Greyhound Rescue and they drove her down to us!! Many thanks to them!! Remi didn’t stay at the kennel long -she got here Thursday & by Friday Nathan&Holly Harrist adopted her!!!! They had been looking for the perfect hound for them since the loss of their last greyhound, Scout. Remi had her shots & checkup yesterday & she was ready to go home with her new family. What a start for a 9 month old dog!!! Congrats Nathan&Holly!!
🐾🦴Tracer made it to the vet today for his check up & shots. He weighed in at 63lbs and everything looks good. We had got some information incorrect on them on intake & they will actually both be 1years old on March 3 so Tracer will be getting his neuter on Wednesday. One step closer to finding him a home. He did great on the car ride and a very good boy at the vet clinic so treats were in order for him after his visit😁.
When the Queen gives you directions on how to get to the vet clinic🤦🏼♀️..back seat drivers these days!!!!Anna Suzanna went to get her annual check up & a dental this past week & all is well!!She is currently the only female dog at the kennel and longest stay out there at 2years now.We would really like to find her a nice home. Anna Suzanna needs a home with a good yard with no small dogs or cats. She is apprehensive of other dogs so would need a proper introduction with another dog of her size or she would also be a great only dog if that’s what you’re looking for. She weighs in at 43lbs and is excellent on the leash. We call her the Queen of the kennel because she is 💁🏻♀️🐾🦴.
🐾🦴Welcome Teddy!!!Teddy is a stray who was running loose in Hale Center & a nice family took him in & brought him to us yesterday. We took him to the vet today to see Dr.Chattin.Teddy looks to be around 9months old and he has coccidia & hookworms. We started treatment on that today. Teddy looks to be a saluki mix and he weighs 47lbs.If you live in the Lubbock area and would like to foster with intent to adopt any of the 3 boys posted today get in touch with Linda. All 3 of these dogs are young and we would like to hold off a few more months before we neuter if we can to let them get the correct bone growth in.Don’t you think Teddy is beautiful?
🐾🦴Welcome Lincoln & Tracer to the rescue kennel! These 2 boys were relinquished by their owner & they were out running the streets when he contacted us.We had to catch them before they got hit by cars.It took a little work and we caught Lincoln the black one first & with the help of Corey we got Tracer secured. The owner said these boys are brothers and are around 8months old. They went on their first leash walk today & did excellent.Next step is the vet visits & will be available for adoption soon.
🐾🦴Welcome Cotton! Cotton was relinquished by a local hunter & he is Bucks brother. Cotton will be 5 years old in April and he weighs in at 73lbs. He had a great vet visit and is very healthy also.Cotton is the more shy one of the two but has already adapted to some leash walking and is becoming more comfortable at the kennel. Cotton will be getting neutered soon & is available for adoption.
