This month, the amazing residents of our Moss 1 Group Home in Albemarle, NC, spent a day spreading kindness by visiting various food donation locations. One of their stops included filling the “Blessing Box” at a local church with canned goods and boxed meals, ensuring that those in need had access to food.
The people we support are often doing wonderful volunteer work throughout the community. Their actions remind us all of the power of giving back.
As we head into the weekend on this “Feel Good Friday”, we encourage you to do something kind for your neighbor or community. Acts of kindness not only boost your own mental health but can also inspire others to pay it forward, creating a beautiful ripple effect of goodness.
Let's make this weekend one filled with compassion and positivity!

🌍🎉 Happy World Emoji Day! 🎉🌍
At Monarch, we understand that sometimes words aren't enough to express how we're feeling. Emojis offer a universal language that can bridge gaps, helping us connect and communicate our emotions when words fall short.
Our mental health professionals often use emoji charts to help individuals articulate their feelings. Whether you're feeling 😊, 😢, or anything in between, sharing your emotions is a crucial step towards understanding and support.
Today, we invite you to share how you're feeling using emojis! Comment below with an emoji (or a few!) that best describes your mood today. Let's celebrate the power of emojis in helping diverse individuals find common ground and express themselves!

Happy World Music Day and “Feel Good Friday”!
Today, we’re celebrating the powerful impact of music within our day programs. The people we support participate in a variety of musical adventures: learning to play instruments, engaging in energetic dance classes, and performing for the community at places like retirement homes. They host vibrant drum circles, invite inspiring guest bands, and explore music stores, fostering socialization and creativity.
For those we support, music brings invaluable benefits, enhancing their well-being and opening doors to new experiences. It’s a universal language that enriches our lives and brings us closer together.
Monarch will be closed on Wednesday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth and will reopen for regular business hours on Thursday, June 20.
Let’s use this day to celebrate diversity in all its forms!
Last week, our Referral Marketing team (Director of Referral Marketing Nicole Sigmon and Referral Marketing Manager Nekita Beach) and Jessica Moore (Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of UMAR, a Division of Monarch) attended the i2i Center for Integrative Health: Insight to Innovation Conference in Raleigh, NC!
The event highlighted our commitment to advancing integrative health practices and fostering innovation in our field. We're excited about the new insights and connections formed at this event and look forward to integrating these experiences into our ongoing efforts to serve our communities better. Together, we are inspired to continue innovating and connecting to make a positive impact!
This “Feel Good Friday” we encourage you to get out and do something that brings you joy this weekend. At the Stokes Opportunity Center, the day program participants have been busy gardening since the beginning of April. They started with just seeds and now their garden is thriving with fresh vegetables and herbs! They use the produce for healthy snacks and hold cooking classes to teach the people we support how to prepare nutritious meals.

This “Feel Good Friday” we want to introduce you to someone that will hopefully inspire you to never let life’s obstacles get in the way of what brings you joy. Let’s go into this weekend with the confidence to face our challenges and experience happiness, just like one of the people we support does every day.
With no further ado, we introduce you to Elizabeth “Beth” Mcgowen, a talented pianist who lives in our Cohen group home in Norwood, NC. Despite being blind, Beth masterfully plays the piano and pipe organ by ear, practicing nightly. She brings joy to her community by performing at her church, First Lutheran in Albemarle, NC and at Spring Arbor of Albemarle Assisted Living facility twice a week.
Beth's musical journey began at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC, where a music teacher taught her to play the piano. Her dedication and passion for music are truly inspiring. Beth’s kindness, talent, and independence make her a shining example of the incredible talents of the people we support.
We're thrilled to share that our Bladen Opportunities day program was featured in BladenOnline.com for their incredible drama and musical performances! This special event brought the community together through inspiring music and heartfelt performances.
We couldn't be prouder of the talented people we support and the amazing impact they continue to make on the community. Check out the full story here: https://ow.ly/vSYi50S96EF

In May, we celebrated National Nurses Week, so we decided to use the opportunity to recognize one of our exceptional nurses as our Employee Spotlight for this past month.
With nearly six years of dedicated service at Monarch, Licensed Practical Nurse Sabrina Dial plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with behavioral health challenges at our Behavioral Health Outpatient Center in Robeson County, so we were proud to feature her as our Employee Spotlight for May. Her wealth of experience, including five years as a nurse in a correctional facility, shines through in her commitment to patient care and her collaboration with colleagues. Sabrina’s passion for behavioral health and her unwavering dedication make her an integral member of the Monarch team.
Welcome to the final week of our "Journey to Mental Wellness" campaign for Mental Health Awareness Month! This week, we're focusing on resilience – the ability to bounce back from life's challenges and grow stronger from them. Check out some simple tips to help you build resilience on your own mental wellness journey!
Building resilience is a journey, not a destination – it takes time and practice! By using what we've learned over the past three weeks about open conversations, finding support, and prioritizing self-care, we can build and maintain our resilience.
In honor of Memorial Day, Monarch will be closed on Monday, May 27. We will reopen with regular business hours on Tuesday, May 28.
Last week, the people we support at Stokes Opportunity Center day program paid their respects to the armed forces at Central Park in King, NC. Please join us in commemorating this special day by remembering and honoring the brave men and women who have served our country.
This “Feel Good Friday” we’re driving into the weekend with Marvin Grey. Remember to practice some self-care this weekend by doing something you enjoy. The residents of Walnut Cove Apartments in Walnut Cove, NC love to get out when they can to do fun activities to take a break from their normal daily routines. Marvin had a great time when they visited Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC last month!
