Earlier this morning, a global IT system failure impacted many industries and businesses across the country. Valley Health experienced select system issues, and our IT teams worked diligently to bring applications back online. All patient appointments and procedures were able to proceed as scheduled, and we are happy to report that most systems at Valley Health are now fully operational. While many other industries and organizations were challenged today, Valley Health was able to continue providing uninterrupted care for patients in our community. Thank you to our dedicated care team for their commitment to delivering safe, effective, uninterrupted care for patients, no matter the obstacles.

Last week, officials with the American Hospital Association traveled to Page Memorial Hospital in Luray and Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock and met with our leaders and providers to learn more about the challenges rural healthcare providers face and how running a Critical Access Hospital differs from other hospitals. The group talked about issues such as transportation, workforce development, rising cost of technology and the recent increase of violence towards healthcare workers. It was a very productive day with both groups learning how we can support each other to improve access and ensure affordable health care for all.
Thank you, Congressman Ben Cline, for visiting Page Memorial Hospital to present a commemorative plaque recognizing the hospital’s historical founding by two groups of industrious women 100 years ago.
When Sue Sours walked into Page Memorial Hospital for her first day of work on June 10, 1970, she already knew the ropes thanks to the fact that she had volunteered as a Candy Striper during her senior year of high school. And the rest, as they say, is history. Sue began her career as a nurse aide on the floor and later transferred to the Laboratory where she remembers being on call and having to use a CB radio because the hospital didn’t have pagers back then. For the past several years, Sue has been with Valley Health PMH Multispecialty Clinic, and by all accounts has no plans to retire any time soon! To mark her 54th anniversary – the longest tenured employee to ever serve at PMH – Hospital Vice President Travis Clark declared June 10 as Sue Sours Appreciation Day!

Congratulations to the Vascular Care Team at Wi******er Medical Center for receiving three stars (the highest score possible) from the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) for the sixth consecutive year. Our participation in this program supports our commitment to provide the best quality practices and standard of care for treating vascular diseases, including conditions of the veins and arteries. "The distinction is directly attributable to the hard work and dedication of our team of vascular surgeons, vascular physician assistants, database abstractors, office staff, nursing, and hospital administration," said vascular surgeon Matthew J. Borkon, MD, FACS. "It requires a cooperative team effort to achieve this recognition."

To raise awareness of and ultimately eliminate violence towards healthcare workers, the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association(VHHA) traveled to Page Memorial Hospital earlier this year to shoot a public service announcement (PSA) featuring two of Page’s finest nurses. The "Help Us, Help You" PSA urges people throughout the Commonwealth to behave respectfully during visits to healthcare facilities so that clinicians can stay focused on providing exceptional patient care. The PSA has been shared with television and radio stations across the state.
Special thanks to registered nurses Vanessa Peters and MacKenzie Watson for their willingness to help spread this important message!
