This past weekend, Vision Therapists Kristen G. and Lisa, Extern Anna and her husband Alex, and Dr. T joined forces to support Dr. Hash, the Clinical Director of Opening Eyes, at the Special Olympics of Washington. They provided eye exams, distributed prescription glasses, sunglasses, and even prescription swimming goggles! This event made a significant impact to so many. 👓🏅🏆
“I loved interacting with each participant, learning about their medals and achievements, and providing them with the eye care they needed.” - Kristen G.

The moment you have been waiting for all week is finally here... the answer from our post!
It’s National Eyewear Day! 👓
Eyewear is so important, as it can be life-changing for the one wearing them! We’ve got some of our team members to show off some different types.
Prescription Glasses: There are single-vision glasses, bifocals, trifocals that help myopic (- lenses) and hyperopic (+ lenses) and presbyopic (with the joy of years, focusing becomes difficult at near) patients see the world clearly. Plus/minus glasses can also help aid a person with strabismus (eye turn) to decrease focusing stress and help their eye alignment. These are just a few of the many ways prescription glasses can help patients!
Sunglasses: Sunglasses are a super important tool used to protect your eyes from the (UV) ultraviolet rays of the sun!
Red and Green Glasses: In Vision Therapy, we use red and green lenses to help gain feedback on whether our eyes are working together, also known as eye teaming. They can also be used to see help appreciate 3D.
Single Red Lens: In Vision Therapy, we use a single red lens with a green overlay in patients with amblyopia (one eye cannot see 20/20 even with the best correction). Thie use of the red lens and green overlay is MFBF, Monocular Fixations in a Binocular Field. At AVTC, we use this in place of black eye patches that try to completely make it dark for one eye. MFBF provides the opportunity and we can help encourage the brain to use both eyes as a team.
Polarized Glasses: Polarized glasses are lenses which filter and rays of light. In vision therapy, we use polarized lenses as another way to see if your eyes are teaming together, often looking to see things in 3D. Polarized sun glasses help protect your eyes from the glare of the sun.
Yoked Prisms: Prisms shift the light, so we see things in a different way. When worn, yoked prisms provide the opportunity for us to become aware through observation and change the way we see space around us.

Undiagnosed Vision Disorder Causes Reading Problems in Kids, Part 1: https://youtu.be/YyfoVKmWDGE?si=4qzTRgdJBK-b1VvS
Look for Part 2 in the comments.
Undiagnosed vision disorder causes reading problems in kids Most people have been looking at eye charts at the optometrist for as long as they can remember. Most kids have their first eye exam as early as 6 months old...
There is more to vision than just seeing 20/20. If reading, mixing up letters, headaches from near work, or having a hard time paying attention with reading or work, it’s possible you may have an undiagnosed vision problem.
Call to schedule our office for a comprehensive exam with our doctors to see if Vision Therapy may be helpful for you!
Vision Therapists, Lisa, Kim, Maddie and Gabriela flew down to San Diego this weekend for Dr. Sanet’s PAVE seminar. We learned and reviewed several activities and had quality team bonding time. We are looking forward for weekend 3 in July!
If this sounds like your child, contact us to get a comprehensive functional visual evaluation!
