Ayurveda, yes, is tapping into the mystery of life. And, it's really not a mystery.Does a bird study flying? Do babies take suckling classes?

Our bodies possess knowledge. Ayurveda is just the written version, interpreting some of this knowledge of life.

Kosa helps you tune into your inner knowledge. You listen.

Then you can soon find yourself engaged in an Ayurvedic lifestyle. You can feel aligned with your body's wisdom and empowered for self-healing.

You can feel good.

Kosa Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Tanya, shares spring self-care practices in these slides (more in bio!).

Be prepared for some discomfort spending this much time on self care. Know that it will only make this process more beneficial and is honoring the practices.

Learn more about our Community Cleanses (3, 10, 14 - day options) where we will support you with individual consults, a customized plan, a care package, and time at the spa.

If you're not cleansing, come to Kosa for your spring care:
- Book a Kosa Balancing Ritual to invigorate and detoxify
- Try our Kapha line of haircare and body care to energize the mind and detoxify the body with organic Ayurvedic herbs
- Book a Personal Retreat for hot/cold therapy to purge winter toxins and stimulate the lymphatic system
- Have our Kapha CCF tea to balance digestion and have daily detox herbs (have a hot cup at the spa or buy a tin)

So much goodness waiting here for you!

Somehow, Kosa has been a vortex for people who need us, and we need them. This is the story of our team. I'm so happy to introduce you to Syd. You will be seeing her lovely face and hearing her voice. Read on to find out why our paths were meant to intersect.
-
KOSA was placed into my life as an answered prayer. I have been dealing with health concerns for over a year, and despite the time, effort, and energy I have poured into my health I haven’t been able to figure it out—yet.

I was told by doctors that everything looks “normal”. Yet, I know that what I am experiencing is not normal. I have felt defeated, depressed, anxious, and in excruciating pain every month. Finally putting myself first, I made the leap of faith to come back to my hometown, Madison WI, to focus on healing.

A reset moment.

Not long after, I unexpectedly found KOSA, or should I say KOSA found me. Not knowing what I was about to walk into, I found myself in awe of Shilpa, her story, and what she has cultivated at Kosa. I knew I needed to be a part of the community in some way.

Fast forward! Now I am working at KOSA as the social media manager and guest host. I’ve been absorbing all the knowledge I can about Ayurveda and I’m not stopping!

It has reminded me and given me hope that healing is possible through the timeless and universal wisdom Ayurveda holds.

It’s a process, and a process I am willing to walk.

So, I’m taking you along my journey as I step into Ayurvedic practices starting with our Kapha cleanse. I will be posting updates every Friday. Follow along with me and see what it opens for you.

Next Friday I’m bringing you along to my initial consult with KOSA’s Ayurvedic Counselor . Stay tuned!

With love,
Syd

This is full disclosure. SOMETIMES -- I eat meat and sugar, binge on Netflix, drink alcohol and caffeine, sleep late.

AND.

I care about my body.

Our society is extreme, and offers quick fixes when you don't seem perfect.

Thousands of years of human existence and 5,000 years of data of Ayurveda says:

This is a PROCESS.

Nothing can "fix" you except you.

When you are ready to listen to your inner voice, you are ready to heal.

My journey has taken me from fast-paced, external focus, to hearing the intelligence that lives within me.

While I sometimes do the things that I know aren't going to serve me, I do them less and less every day. Most of the things I listed above, not often at all.

When I do, I do them with awareness. If I have a cup of coffee, I KNOW. I know it will disturb my sleep, cause inflammation and sometimes hot flashes.

With this awareness, I slowly do less.

Over time, I feel better when I listen to my inner voice and the "feel good" in the moment doesn't feel as good as when I am balanced and aligned.

I feel better at 51 than I did at 25 because of the shifts I've made, thanks to Ayurveda.

Cleansing is an opportunity to remember yourself, hear your voice, and make daily shifts that over time are transformative.

YOU take the place of your mother's voice. Or whomever noticed you and cared for you as a child. YOU are empowered to make small shifts every day to feel better.

And you will. I promise.

Join us for our Spring Cleanse to see what might open for you.

While the weather has been strange here in Madison, we can all feel it. We can feel the transition. Some of us feel it in our bodies. I feel it in my mind. It's a little disruptive. It says to me "time to awaken".

Awakening is not always comfortable. I'm working on being comfortable in the discomfort. Lately, I've found breakthrough's here.

If you're ready to awaken, find your breakthrough, to be comfortable with discomfort, join us for our Spring Cleanse. We are now on our 8th season!

This is a self-care immersion that calls to all of us. You will learn about Ayurveda, about your body, and your mind.

You will feel brighter, lighter, clearer, and more awake.

Āyurveda calls the transition between two seasons, Ritu Sandhi, or ‘the place where seasons meet’ – and offers specific healing practices and rituals to help prepare for the change, already in the air. As we begin shifting from Vata to Kapha season, let us prepare to renew together.

We will share more about how to help your body ease into Spring with Ayurvedic practices and our Cleanse offering soon. So now is the perfect time to book an initial consult with our Ayurvedic Health Counselor to give you the understanding you deserve to restore a deeper balance within.

It’s never too late to live along side the timeless and universal wisdom of Ayurveda to remember who we are. Here’s to new beginnings, renewal, and growth. Are you ready? Comment any questions below!

Ayurveda Pop Up this weekend! My Ayurveda teacher, Rose Carol, is coming here from Chicago to share her gifts with you.

SHE ONLY HAS 6 OPENINGS, so grab them and book quickly!

Rose is offering Marma Therapy and Mantra Sound Healing.

These therapies are amazing for:
Anxiety
Inflammation
Sleep Disorders
Grief

“I slept like I hadn’t slept in years" -- this is what her clients say.

MARMA
According to Ayurvedic science, there are 72,000 channels or tubes of circulation called nadis, that circulate prana or life force throughout the physical body.

The nadis get blocked, damaged, or corrupted due to stress, pollution, poor diet, and lifestyle.

The points at which prana exits and enters are known as marma points, they are like switch points and these marma points can also get sticky and not function well.

Marma therapy unblocks and balances these so life force can flow to all parts of the body and mind with ease.

MANTRA
Mantra Sound Healing is the frequencies of nature, also called devatas. Disease and disharmony can arise in our lives when these frequencies go out of sequence.

Healing mantras are sound frequencies that establish order in the physiology and allow the memory (smriti) of health to be regained.

Having a trained practitioner personally chant the mantra specifically for you along with their positive awareness promotes a deeper experience of wellbeing. The value is having someone direct the mantra to a targeted area of your body, emotions, or mind.

This is a very special opportunity and I am so honored to be hosting Rose.

I hope we see you this weekend!

It's two days past the new moon, but I'm a bit behind - such is the holidays! I'm still feeling this energy and know it will bring meaning to you all. From our in-house Ayurvedic Astrologer

Jysetha is ruled by Indra, the god of gods; Indra gives ability to control the senses: the alchemical process of overcoming the darkness of losing ourselves. Difficult experiences create an opportunity to enjoy sensual pleasures without being taken over by them.

We will experience the stirring of bottomless wells of emotion that have gone undisturbed and may easily ignite with so much Pitta in the house. Be mindful. Make sure whatever you drag up from the deep is ready to be unleashed. It’s a good time for emotional detox and setting yourself straight on some of the more difficult dragons you’ve been keeping in the dungeon.

Scorpio is associated with soul liberation through Dharma. If you are connected to your dharmic path, this will be a powerful time to go into the depths.

Take this emotional vortex into creation with the following ingredients.

Water, Fire, Feminine, Masculine, 8, Mystical, Magical, Alchemy, Passionate, Deep, Intuitive, Research, Connection, Intimate, Sensitive, Still, Creative, Kapha, Pitta, Mobile, Reproducing, Creative, Sensual, Esoteric, Moon, Mars, Ketu

What wants to be created through you?
Are you the master of your senses?
What are you attracting?
What are you leaving behind?

Book an Ayurvedic Astrology session and try a Kosa ritual during this transformational season. The Bath Ritual or the New Beginnings Purifying Ritual would be excellent for this Moon cycle.

08/12/2023

We have our super popular holiday gift card bonus right now.

So gift as many as you want. AND- I know that you see this picture and wish it was you.

Just know we sell lots of gift cards that people buy for themselves too. And we love that!!

It makes me so happy when people are checking out, all glowy from the oil and love, all floaty from the energy flow- I love when they present a gift card that they bought for themselves.

They seems so proud to announce that they put themselves first. As they should be!

In this society, going to a spa is seen as indulgent and selfish.

In India, massage is a staple of health. It is not always fancy, but is a normal part of life. People understand the real benefits, just like eating your veggies.

As a little girl, when visiting India, the “malish” (massage) lady would come to my grandmother’s house, lay down a grass mat on the concrete floor, and give me and my sisters the most amazing, super oily massages.

At Kosa, it’s a little cozier that that 😉

You get into your robe, have some of our seasonal tea, get a neck warmer, sink into the couch. Then have your warm oil a Abhyanga delivered by some of the most caring and gifted people I’ve ever met.

You need this. And it is not a luxury.

Benefits of Abhyanga oil treatment include:
Balancing nervous system
Detoxification and improved immunity
Lowered blood pressure
Better sleep

If you just have those four things, your entire life can change. It is the cornerstone of an Ayurvedic lifestyle.

So I say, stock up on those gift cards so I can see you in the new year - proud that you’re putting yourself first.

01/12/2023

My main issue after holiday gatherings are bloating, fatigue, overall cloudy in the head. A bit drained energetically.I love my Ayurvedic lifestyle! Knowing that I will likely feel this way, paying attention to my body, not accepting this as my fate. I look to prevention, self-care, self-love.

I pack my purse or backpack with a few essentials. Some seem weirder than others. Most of the time, nobody notices. And I feel so much better. Lighter. With greater capacity to handle all the things that holidays come with.

All the things.

A few simple practices will help you stay connected to your inner voice, keep your nervous system regulated, and bring you into greater awareness so you can fully enjoy this special time of year.

Some of my top tips are here. More on blog link in bio.

Day of gathering:
Notice what makes you feel how you feel.
Avoid grazing.
Eat to 2/3 full.
Avoid cold water, drinks, raw food. Sip on CCF Tea or warm water.
Step away for alone time, fresh air - when you need it.

After the partying:
Synch with circadian rhythms with a regular sleep and eating schedule.
Eat nourishing foods like Khichdi 1/day for a few days. Come to Kosa for ours! Or buy our Khichdi spice.
Sip on healing teas (recipes in blog)
Support your nervous system with breath work, meditation, yoga.
Come to the spa and let us take care of you. Detox in the steam/sauna, disconnect in the Sanctuary, sip on CCF tea, experience healing touch with our organic herbal oils and skincare. AHHHHH....

You are going to be just fine.

And these little practices are empowering. They are yours for the taking.

28/11/2023

How many of you are fighting an internal battle -- "don't keep buying stuff" and "don't be a prude - have fun and buy people stuff"?Each year, I still have this same struggle. In the end, my intuition wins and nobody (including kids) is disappointed or deprived. It's seriously OK.

We love food, experiences, time together, clothes, art. And we also get a few things that are not all about virtue and perfection.

In the end, we benefit from the good energy exchanged.

At Kosa, we have White Friday.

This is isn't stuff.

These are plants blended with ancient Ayurvedic wisdom of health and beauty. You have a symbiotic relationship with the potions we put in these bottles, tins, and jars.

I have vetted every single (organic) ingredient through the lens of non-harm. To you, the environment, the people who make the ingredients.

Let's lavish ourselves in good sleep, good food, good herbs, good oils. Put them in and on your body and watch the magic happen as you become aligned with nature around and inside of you.

Some sumptuous choices:
Ginger clove body oil - grounding, nourishing skin in winter months
Cinnamon cedar soy candles - cozy, warming clean burning aromatherapy
Geranium jasmine body lotion - brightening, uplifting for body / mind
Rose and blue chamomile toner with HA - reduces redness, plumps skin
Kosa Kitchen Masala Chai with ginger and cardamom - warming, sweet, and spicy (no caffeine)
Lime prebiotic deodorant - balances skin microbiome, anywhere on body 😉
Turmeric rose clay mask - detoxifying, calming
Fennel neem scalp oil - soothing, nourishing for healthier hair

White Friday through 11/30 with 25% OFF ENTIRE STORE AND FREE SHIPPING.

From our in house astrologer Lisa Mcknight /

Exalted Full Moon Monday, November 27, 2023, 3:16 AM CT in Ta**us and Rohini Nakshatra. Ta**us is about the nourishment we receive through others, or our own efforts. Rohini brings the power of manifesting worldly desires.

This is an excellent time to reflect on what feels nourishing and how it comes to you. Plan to do some of those things as the Moon is coming into its fullness. After the peak point, the Moon will immediately start waning, at which time it will be auspicious to begin moving the obstacles to nourishment out of our lives, whatever they may be. What a beautiful time of year to explore this!

Mercury is bringing sensitivity to communication. Mars is combust in its own sign, Scorpio, causing extra Pitta/fire energy. Ketu in Virgo in Chitra Nakshatra conjunct debilitated Venus, also in Chitra.

With communication aggravated, extra fire, and Venus debilitated, be extra gentle with relationships right now. The capacity to be loving may be stressed. Focusing instead on putting all of this creative energy into manifesting desires.

Thankfully, Venus enters its own sign, Libra, on Wednesday, November 29. Realizing everything happening prepares us for the waning Moon time, where we release what no longer serves.

What desires are ripening for you?

What feels nourishing and allows you to get into your creative flow?

What actions are you taking towards manifesting your desires?

Just after the Full Moon ripens, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga begins, from 7:05 AM on November 27 to 7:06 AM on November 28; making this an auspicious time for starting new things, having ceremonies, or performing rituals. Also, it's great for buying material things that bring nourishment. Perfect timing because it's an extra busy time of year.

If you need a little extra nourishment, we are here for you, and if you want to share the gift of nourishment with your family and friends, we make it easy with our gift cards, and don't forget our White Friday sale!

21/11/2023

White Friday time is 25% off all of our wellness products at Kosa. PLUS Free Shipping - Yay!And yes, I find the holidays challenging. The hustle, expectations, consumerism, bombardment of ads, focus on food, intensity of social activity. These things are draining.

AND - there is more time to enjoy my kids during their vacation, winter darkness allows for inward focus, and I love the coziness of it all. These things are opening.

In that opening, I find space and love and the desire to give.

I created Kosa so we can enjoy this one life, this one body. To be in the present.

Know that everything is organic, sourced and made locally or by small businesses, and intentionally created to bring you into your body and into the present.

Some gift ideas:
- Cinnamon cedar soy candles
- Geranium jasmine body lotion
- Rose and blue chamomile toner
- Kosa Kitchen Masala Chai with ginger and cardamom
- Lime prebiotic deodorant
- Turmeric rose clay mask
- Fennel neem scalp oil
- So many more decadent goodies!

Give the gift of spa time with gift card bonus values or get boxes of goodies with our 25% white Friday specials.

Just pop into the spa to experience the vibe or have fun learning about our products and Ayurveda with our online store.

We will have many more specials this season, so you don't have to put pressure on yourselves. I have fun curated holiday gift boxes, new products to put on the shelves, and amazing decadent spa packages. Just keep following us!

I look forward to enjoying this time with all of you through the all of it!

Here's another moon update from our in-house Vedic Astrologer .This past Monday November 13 was the New Moon in Libra in Vishaka Nakshatra with debilitated Sun, conjunct a combust Mars, Rahu and Ketu moving into new signs. I felt this energy building over time and it was hitting me hard due to the placements in my birth chart. My energy was too scattered to write a post. I needed a spa day to rejuvenate. Thankfully Kosa was there for me! I was able to fully relax and reflect on manifesting my goals.

My formula for a perfect spa day.

Arrive 30 minutes early to check in, take some time in our Sanctuary space. There you can relax on our cozy couches with a blanket, sipping on Ayurvedic tea.

Bring your journal or enjoy the inspirational books available for reading in the sanctuary.

Bodywork of your choice; I had Abhyanga (decadent warm oil, full body treatment) with added Indian head Massage using our in-house herbalized oil to calm the mind and nourish the scalp..

Back to the sanctuary for a nourishing bowl of Kosa Khichdi, inspired by our founder, Shilpa's, family recipes. Have it with a soothing Ayurvedic latte made with our in-house organic blend of herbs and spices.

Off to the personal retreat for a Hot-Cold sauna/steam/shower experience.

If you would like to work more closely with the Moon cycles and how they affect your constitution, book a session with me!

I pull out this picture each year on our birthday. It was taken Garver Feed Mill, in what are now treatment rooms. Complete with graffiti. Incomplete with floors and ceilings missing.

When this picture was taken, I could feel my dream was coming true.

In the past four years, we have hosted over 6,000 of you. This year, we were featured on Samantha Brown's PBS show, "Places to Love" episode on Madison, and were voted bronze in the Best of Madison spa category.

As we grow and change, the living organism of Kosa encompasses our spaces, all of you, and everything in between.

The heart of Kosa is our people. These are our Ayurvedic practitioners, massage therapists, estheticians, guest hosts, managers, astrologers, yoga teachers. These beautiful humans show up every day, with bright spirits, ready to share their gifts with you.

When you all come here next, do take a moment to see them, be present, and recognize the gift they so generously want to share with you.

Our birthday always happens around the Indian new year and festival of lights, Diwali. It's a time for renewal and remembering your inner light.

Last night I celebrated with my family and while swishing sparklers in the night, realized that the "light" can only be seen with the presence of dark.

This year I have learned the importance of embracing it ALL. Embracing the whole of everything, integrating ourselves.

Find your full, true self here, in these 100+ year-old spaces, in warm oils, hot steam baths, organic facials, nourishment bowls with ghee.

Through Nov you get a free $100 gift card with memberships. And we have our holiday gift card bonus with an extra $10 for every $100 you spend. (see bio)

Here's to new beginnings and many more years with all of you!
